500 pitches a week....
talk about lip service only. 500 pitches a week is nothing but kuchi waza to say they're thinking of the player while doing nothing of the sort.

David Varnes: You beat me to it. Lip-service once again. I'm surprised they didn't say, "500 pitches per inning, or 20 extra innings, whichever comes first. Or if the kid's arm falls off." It's like when Abe made the law about "limiting" OVERTIME to 100 extra hours per month (that must be paid), meaning a 14 hour work day, with one month off a day. And of course, enforcement will be non-existent, and cooperation voluntary. And coaches that abuse and ignore it will not be punished at all, or even reprimanded, if the team does well. TIJ.

I wouldn't mind seeing some sort of mercy rule in high school basketball. I'm getting tired of watching teams run up the scores. Its common to see 150-18 type scores because some coaches believe only the starting members should play in order to be ready for the next game.

Funny thing about all this at the HS level, is that at JHS level, the kids who play hardball, not the rubber ball baseball, have had pitch limits for years.
They have the "data" from all the years these kids have been playing, so when he talks about "There is no scientific basis (for this number)," he is actually blowing smoke up everyone's arses! All they have to do is check with all the leagues around the country, if they wanted to!

They could also check with other countries, such as the USA, where pitch limits have been used from the Little League up through the high school levels on a regular basis going back to when I was a kid playing baseball. Now, I'm not saying I swung lumber in the era of Ruth or Mantle, but there's at least two decades of data on pitch counts and arm injuries... if they actually were doing something about this.
