Abe with a wig. Let’s glue two words together shall we, Koipics

possibly

Without 40,000 tests a day, not less than 3000, no one can possible take Tokyo seriously

2 ( +2 / -0 )

More than Covit 19 the heat is of concern. If you have the same temperatures as this year this is going to be hell for many athletes.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

The athletes had to pull out because Japan refused to make a decision. What the IOC or TOC thinks is meaningless

3 ( +3 / -0 )

No, the Olympics ought not be held - "by all means".

Stubbornness meets obsessive fixation.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Yes it should by all means...provided the pandemic has come under control.

Nice deflection, without aggressive testing you will never know if the pandemic is under control or not.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

This is the same person who said, "Canceling the 2020 Olympics is 'unthinkable”'....

Ah yes. A reminder of this statement provided a wry chuckle to start the day. How ironic, perhaps even unique, that so many things quite easily thinkable elsewhere remain unthinkable in Japan. Still, the 'unthinkable' happens in spite of everything. Perhaps it's time to think again. Think at all. Whatever fits.

This is nuts, I feel like I just got out of a time machine & its now mid March 2020 a few days before Canada said they wont be coming this July.........

Koike.................sorry you are BONKERS!!!

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Wait and see. Rushing to host the Olympics at a time when people might not come, might not be interested, could spread the virus in Japan for no gains. Maybe postpone until 2024 then host it in Japan.

By then people would have time to recover, mentally, physically, emotionally from one of the worst pandemics in recent history.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

We'll see.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Yeah right..sacrifice people's health over greediness??

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Kamakazi mentality is kicking in.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Do it like the UFC is doing.

You mean hold the event on an island off the coast of mainland Asia, which has all the necessary infastructure for such an event, where the local government is overly enthusiastic about hosting it, and where all the competitors show up days or weeks beforehand to train there after getting tested and being in quarentine?

Sure, maybe its concievable for UFC, but the Olympics...

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Is she doing ANYTHING else or any other work?

It seems like this is the only thing on her mind right now.

Or one would be led to believe here on Japan Today.

Aren't there more important and realistic issues to deal with?

This cannot be priority number one in her book.

And if it is, Tokyo and Japan are in some serious trouble.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

This woman changed her tune so often who can believe her. She also said that taking away cherry blossom viewing was the same as taking away hugs from Italians. Yes, she actually said that

8 ( +8 / -0 )

Sceptical as I am about this scamdemic, the damage has been done. The only place an Olympics will be held next year is in Koike’s imagination

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Outrageously stupid comment, it's over move on.

oh that's right need the Cudos to affirm the sence of self worth she sadly lacks, at the expense of tax payers.....for her tax payers???? Who are they?

6 ( +6 / -0 )

The Olympics that no one wants

12 ( +12 / -0 )

Pie in the sky served up with gobs of irrationality and laced with speciousness is the hallmark of the snake-oil mindset of politicians, a two-legged species that has little taste for the truth and consequently suffers from cognitive dissonance and sundry disturbed relationships to reality, all of which ironically serve them well in their vocation since, as Mark Twain observed, it is far easier to fool people than convince them that they have been fooled. I don't want to believe it either, but I fear the tenacious Covid-21 will prove to be Koike's bitter moment of truth that will sweep away all the cobwebs of her wishful thinking and bring about the downfall of Tokyo's "Tower of Babel" vanity project.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

By all means watch from home is what she is trying to say....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yes it should by all means...provided the pandemic has come under control.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Thorough Measures?

Diamond Princess was challenge enough. Olympics? You’re dreaming.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

I'd say everything should be postponed until 2024

Postpone them or cancel 2020 games outright and move on directly to Paris?

Testing figures in Tokyo are abysmal. We are testing more than 1 million people here in Hong Kong this week. I just got tested and saw at least several hundred others come and go in a span of 15 minutes at my neighborhood testing center.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

What's wrong with that woman? I believe Japan will be okay by then but, the Olympics aren't only about Japan, they are an event that involves most countries around the world. I'm pretty sure most countries would rather spend their money fixing their economy than sending a bunch of rich athletes to a watered down Olympics. I'd say everything should be postponed until 2024

5 ( +7 / -2 )

I stopped commenting on the daily covid19 numbers because its farcical. The numbers are and will continue to be artificially reduced to comply with the official narrative.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Here we go again! Just like May and the beginning of June, "Ooo rah rah" Olympics are a go! Until the athletes decide they arent going to show up, and the IOC decides to say "No" too!

Only this time the IOC is saying yes too...right now!

We are going to have to listen to this crap for the next 9 months!

@golfer62

The phrase used by Hashimoto in Japanese was なんとしても, which the English media have reasonably translated as "at any cost", but remember that the English phrase doesn't refer (specifically) to money: it means rather whatever the difficulties or dangers might be, come what may, whatever might happen, even regardless of the consequences. What a reckless statement!

11 ( +12 / -1 )

At any cost, and how many lives are an acceptable price for these elitist ivory tower types to be sacrificed by other “little people” of course. They will be well protected in their security bubble, paid for by the same “little people”.

Tokyo Gov Yuriko Koike said Wednesday the Japanese capital should host the postponed Summer Olympics "by all means" next year by taking thorough measures against the novel coronavirus pandemic.

What thorough measures ? Carrying out less than 1000 test a day for a city of 14M cannot be called

thorough by anybody. When she advocates ramping up testing to the level of NY that is 100,000 a day

and really goes ahead and implements it that is when we know she has taken thorough measures.

For now it is nothing but lip service.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

"By taking one step at a time, I want the games to be memorable."

What on earth does that mean?

12 ( +14 / -2 )

Olympic Minister states: the Olympics should be held "at any cost" The cost estimates have recently been estimated between double and triple the original $7 Billion used for the bid to get the Olympics to Tokyo... Who will pay for the final 'at any cost'??? Hashimoto-san?

The Tokyo metropolitan government on Monday reported 77 daily infections, the lowest number since July 8, but it confirmed 149 new cases on Wednesday.

Wanna know why the numbers were so low?

The number is the result of 913 tests conducted on Sept 6.

https://japantoday.com/category/national/tokyo-reports-149-new-coronavirus-cases

That's why the numbers were so low. She is purposefully slowing the testing down to keep the numbers low. Less than a 1000 people tested in all of Tokyo?? Really Koike??

14 ( +17 / -3 )

This is the same person who said,

"Canceling the 2020 Olympics is “unthinkable,” although the classification of the coronavirus as a pandemic will likely have some impact on the games."

March 12, 2020

And yet they were postponned.

Don't count those chickens quite yet Koike-san.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

The Tokyo metropolitan government on Monday reported 77 daily infections, the lowest number since July 8, but it confirmed 149 new cases on Wednesday.

because they are not testing. I remember when this useless woman was attacking Abe for his lack of leadership in tackling the virus, and now she is pushing for the games. She's not only an idiot, she's immoral, a backstabber, and changes her position in accordance to her agenda.

12 ( +19 / -7 )

Do it like the UFC is doing.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

They should copy the NBA and have virtual fans in the stands.

And, if another wave of Covid-19 happens at the wrong time, virtual athletes would be great too.
