What is Mori's roll in all this? His roll needs to be explained further...

@simian Lane

Yes, it's a sad day when cancel culture reaches Japanese shores, look at how great it's worked in western countries.

... to win public trust for Olympics

“ 80% of Japanese people think the Olympics should be canceled and 90% doesn’t care “ .

There’s your “trust”.

We know you need to “keep pressing the same button” but ...

( “yawn”, that’s right Thomas. )

after a worldwide uproar over sexist remarks.

WORLDWIDE UPROAR!!?

LOL

Why Japanese fail, everybody goes down with a sinking ship

Olymipcs not gong to happen, you can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all the time. And this smozal has been a disaster even with an exta year added still a disaster. International media would rip the LDP had they visited it's best to let sleeping dogs lie.

'On Friday, Tokyo Gov Yuriko Koike welcomed Hashimoto's appointment and that of Tamayo Marukawa as new Olympic minister.'

Marukawa =Former Prime Minister Abe's mouthpiece.

A total non-story from JT here. Can’t wait for this media storm to settle so we can get back to the main issue. A global pandemic, a healthcare system well past its capacity, an forthcoming mega spreader event.

JT not covering the what the scientists and health department are saying on this. Why are they not pressing for comment?

From the ravings of a senile old sexist to the voice of reason from a Japanese woman. The women of Japan should be running the country.

Sexism, like racism, is A MAIN ISSUE for humanity. The fact that there are sill people who think otherwise proves it. I am quite happy to see a piece of glass ceiling in Japan has fallen to the ground.

Considering the Olympics aren't now going to happen in 2021, she really has inherited a non-job.

Socrateos:

I certainly didn’t say that sexism isn’t an issue, I’m commenting on the story:

“Hashimoto asks staff to work as 'one team' to win public trust for Olympics.”

The article is not about sexism. The story written is a non-story. Like me writing an article about how I asked my team to work hard this week. This is lazy journalism.

I’m suggesting that JT stops trying to squeeze the lemon writing non-articles like this one and instead presses the scientists and health department experts for their comments on whether the Olympics should happen. They haven’t even bothered to do that in this article which is lazy journalism.

Public should work as “one team” to stop it.

Japan officially enters the 20th century.

The usual bland and uninspiring platitudes from Hashimoto, with some bonus rehashing the old rugby (=Mori) slogan to show who's still pulling the strings.

With a few months to go, it's time to start telling people exactly what "sufficient measures against the coronavirus" will let them "hold a trusted Tokyo Games".

One statement from me!

More Feeling!

In bigger news, Hashimoto has declined payment for this role and claims Mori did too. However, she is still getting her MP salary and expenses, which come to over 30 million yen a year, in spite of not intending to do any MP work. This strikes me as doing things backwards, but is unsurprising in that it works as spin for Mori. Any suggestion about Mori being unpaid should prefaced by his PR firm getting large payments of a highly dubious nature from the organizers and shutting up shop immediately when this came to light.

A poll on the Yahoo Japan site with 385,000 votes shows nearly 80% want the Games cancelled. About 10% want a postponement, and only 8.6% said they should go ahead.

Seiko Hashimoto was Senior Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs for a year or so, and was virtually invisible, except for a few hand-shaking photo opportunities. My neighbour who worked at the MFA at the same could not remember anything she did, except read what the bureaucrats wrote. She expects her to do exactly the same in this new role, just be a new face for the old men behind the scenes.

I think appointing a woman just for being a woman is just as sexist as not appointing her for the same reason.

Both Hashimoto and her Olympic ministry successor add zero value to the organisations they work for

Hashimoto asks staff to work as 'one team'

How many teams were they working as, before?

Or they weren't working at all? I guess?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

She should be raising her voice. Instead she adheres to the ancient system with no criticism about Mori.

Every sane person should say he is a dinosaur that should never have been appointed.

At least Hashimoto is as for sports a real example to follow.

I think appointing a woman just for being a woman is just as sexist as not appointing her for the same reason.

The only skill needed here is the ability to stop yourself from embarrassing Japan. Choosing a woman here was actually smart. Think about it. What if they had to go out for pasta with their foreign friends. It would have been a disaster with the ossans.

Sorry @Speed 12:20p. She’s trying to work with what she’s got. Some posts, on the issue, disappea. Others, that try to divert to ‘their own agenda’ remain @8:53a. ’“Hashimoto asks to win public trust for Olympics.” Keep up the work. God Speed.

I think you are confusing JT for something else.

The cosmetic choice of Ms. Hashimoto is transparent damage control: her feminine intelligence will ensure that verbal indiscretions like"men talk too much" will never occur.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Imagine being sacked for saying women talk too much. I’m still in shock about this.

It's probably not the real reason he was sacked. It"s probably a combination of many things that the committee did'nt like about him, and his comments gave a good excuse to get rid of him.

The fact that Hashimoto has asked staff to work as one team seems to confirm that there is disagreement in the camp.

JT share news from news agencies. They won’t be pressing anybody for comments, since they don’t write articles. If you’re looking for a go-getting hard hitting investigative reporter with a piece of paper tucked into his trilby hat you’re not going to find one.

This story was written by Kyodo, a news agency. It says so at the bottom of the article.

Hashimoto is taking things seriously. She's not wearing a skirt!
