So, there will not be postponement to 2024. Probably it will be cancelled. I believe Olympic 2021 will cancelled at 90%.

Probably it will be cancelled. I believe Olympic 2021 will cancelled at 90%.

I think same.

I like the Olympic games and before the pandemic I was very excited for the games in Tokyo.

But under this circumstances, my excitement is going down day by day.

"From a human point of view, I have some understanding," Bach said, given that countless people have been in hard times. "It is difficult to imagine what will happen in six months."

"But at the time of the games, the situation will be different, and the measures being taken will be different," he said. "I am sure that with the improvement of the situation, also these people will think differently."

Seems like Bach, and Suga and Mori and Dentsu have a hard time generating any empathy for the human point of view and what the majority of people are feeling during this pandemic. Must be hard to imagine a life not comfortably insulated in the warm security blanket of a populace whose wealth and labor you use as a resource.

I hope NO athletes from my country attend this frivolous waste of not only taxpayers' money, but a selfish total disregard for public health.

@vanityofvanities

that is the oh so obvious solution.

move all the Olympics back 4 years, so that Tokyo will now be 2024, & Paris in 2028.

Bach is right in saying that you cannot compare March 2020 with March 2021. There were no highly infectious coronavirus variants back then.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

How sad and frustrating is to hear these embellished d words full of emptiness like “a proof that humanity defeated the virus” or “the situation in march 2021 can’t be compared with the one in march 2020”

These cronies have basically a crystal ball that can predict the future but meanwhile the real world is facing the worst period since the Covid and nothing is granted.

It is simply unbelievable to see how much these people prioritize their pockets despite the lives of people.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

Should we remind Mr Bach of the “ Men’s sana in corpore sano “ IOC slogan ?

ignoring over 80 % of the populations wishes sounds familiar too

Autosuggestion, lier, hypocrit etc....whatever how do you call that, O.G will be canceled for sure. Since the beginning I am against them as this money should have been used for tohoku and social helps (hoikuen...), not falling in big Corporation as dentsu, okumura etc...

"proof that humanity defeated the coronavirus."

I think he meant to say "proof that humanity has been defeated by greed and stupidity"

Times of London reads totally different:

Japan looks for a way out of Tokyo Olympics because of Covid

5 ( +5 / -0 )

the previous Tōkyō Olympics enhanced Japan's reputation in the world, this time, I think the legacy will be quite quite different....

It’s all about Money period...lives don’t matter at this point...

Rumors are rumors. But increasing rumors are the sign of truth.

Game over

“The Japanese government has privately concluded that the Tokyo Olympics will have to be cancelled because of the coronavirus, and the focus is now on securing the Games for the city in the next available year, 2032.”

An interviewer should just ask Bach on air to bet 100,000 USD of his own money against the TV station that the Games won't be cancelled. His reaction will confirm what we already know.

Some assumptions and please correct me if I am wrong on any of them.....

The Olympics are supposed to start this summer.

It will be unsafe to hold the Olympics unless there is herd immunity in the population.

There will not be herd immunity unless there are widespread vaccinations before this summer, or if enough people get sick and recover that the virus retreats into the background.

There are currently no plans to conduct widespread immunizations before summer in Japan, and it will be another few years before the virus plays itself out without a vaccination program.

Therefore, there will either be no Olympics this summer, or, if they are held, it will be the mother of all super-spreader events.

"You may not like it but sacrifices will be needed. This is why I'm saying, safety first, and no taboo in the discussion to ensure safety," the IOC president said.

Translation:

You plebs need to shut up and die quietly so I can get paid.

UK Press is reporting "Japan's government has privately concluded the Tokyo Olympics will have to be cancelled because of the coronavirus, The Times reported on Friday, citing an unnamed senior member of the ruling coalition."

More calculated leaks?

If there was ever any doubt as to how greedy and corrupt the IOC was, the Tokyo olympics should be a testament to how vile they really are.

Last year, Canada was right to withdrawal from the games after the pandemic started surging.

It's time for countries to prove their loyalty to their athletes by dropping out of the games.

Breaking news in Australian media -

A report in The Times reveals Japan has given up on any hope of hosting the Games and will now look for hosting rights to the 2032 Games.

Wow. It may well be true, or premature. Watch this space.

Here is one of the sources -

A report in The Times reveals Japan has given up on any hope of hosting the Games and will now look for hosting rights to the 2032 Games.

I think this will turn out to be true. This is straight from the J-gov playbook. Continue to say something is absolutely not going to happen, right up until the moment when they officially change direction and start saying the complete opposite. Their just trying to get their story straight now so they can come out and say they are doing this for the good of Japan and it's people...

Bach is correct March 2021 will be different to March 2020

How many deaths a day in Japan then, now approaching 100 after more than doubling in about a month so how many by then?

Anyhow another view

so which media says the truth?

there will be or will not be tokyo olimpics?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Massively overspent Olympics, big shiny new department stores in Ginza emptying.....

Pretty sure there’s a lesson somewhere in there about greed. Eggs, one basket and all that.

How far can someone loose contact to the real world?

Either he knows better, than he is just a liar (something we got used to in the last 4 years) or he does believe what he says. What he then is I am not allowed to write down in this forum.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Japan has the built infrastructure, so Tokyo 2024.

"You may not like it but sacrifices will be needed. This is why I'm saying, safety first, and no taboo in the discussion to ensure safety," the IOC president said.

Did Bach ask the virus?

I know someone dealing with the infection right now, too scared to go to the hospital, in case a positive test result is found!

That’s a taboo that Bach should know about...

IOC chief Bach says there is no plan B for Tokyo Olympics

Seems like they don't really have a plan A for the Tokyo Olympics either.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Hello Mr. Bach.

My name is Reality.

I believe we haven't crossed paths before.

Nice to meet you.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

No plan B? That does not sound very bright.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"International Olympic Committee chief Thomas Bach voiced confidence Thursday that the Tokyo Olympics will go ahead this summer, saying there is "no plan B" even as doubts grow amid a sharp resurgence of coronavirus cases in the Japanese capital and elsewhere."

I love how quickly these people buckle when the ultimatum doesn't go there way. It's the same with the JOC -- "There will be no more postponements. If the Games don't go ahead, they will be cancelled!" as a kind of threat. Then, as soon as talk of cancellation starts, it's, "Well, let's take 2024!"

They'll come up with a "Plan B" tout de suite once they are 'cancelled' some time in the next week or so.

But under this circumstances, my excitement is going down day by day.

Hold them off until next year. Restore the original Olympic years of having summer and Winter Games together in one year. It'll save Tokyo a lot of trouble and money if they do that. By then the virus may be over.
