She declined to comment? Have the LDP old boys told her she's already talked too much?
Cricky
That's a poisened position, a career ender. Walk away let Abe finish what he started.
bokuda
Could be a real chaos if she outsmarts the old boys.
I'm rooting for her.
snowymountainhell
She should have ‘declined’ the position before the vote. Leave them hanging. No woman to blame later.
TrevorPeace
She's not only a former Olympian, she's smart. I'll put my yen on her saying 'no, but thank you'.
noriahojanen
She would need to weather criticism on her past records, namely sexual harassment allegation. How will she is accountable to media and public is the key.
Chibakun
Need to get these Olympics over and done with.
Peter Neil
This is just a figurehead position. They don't really do anything, except say things like blah, blah, blah and hold meetings where others say, blah, blah, blah.
Do the hustle
How ironic! Mori got canned for his comment about women talking too much and now he looks to be replaced by a woman. You just can’t make this stuff up. Laugh out loud!

What a bad job, Well she aleady had a bad job anyway. All of it really through no fault of her own. Good luck to her anyway, couldn't possibly be worse than her predecessor. Besides, as a Minister she probably holds more clout in telling Bach where he can put it if Japan isn't ready for 2021.
yokohamarides
She was accused of sexual harassment a few years ago, wasn't she?
Aly Rustom
from her wikipedia page
seems like she would be good for the job.
TokyoJoe
She is a great pick for the role and has no doubt earned her position through skill, knowledge and experience.

The first comment of my wife
“ A few years back, she had a Sekuhar a issue by kissing the much younger skater Takahashi Daisuke against his will during a party. Hum. Not sure this is the good choice “
Asiaman7
“My behavior was shameful and I am reflecting deeply on that.” — Seiko Hashimoto after Shukan Bunshun magazine published photos of Hashimoto hugging and kissing 28-year-old heartthrob Daisuke Takahashi amid an alcohol-fueled party after the Sochi Olympics.
Bob Fosse
A 7 time Olympian, a cabinet minister and law maker. What other requirements would you like?
Asiaman7
Just pondering ... Hashimoto forced herself onto a man, realized her mistake, and apologized. Mori made inappropriate comments about women, realized his mistake, and apologized.
None of us are perfect, but isn’t this a double standard?
AG
Let’s hope they let her talk!!
dbsaiya
Mori protege, and LDP "yes woman." Don't know why the organizing committee didn't have a vice to succeed in this type of situation. Poor organizational governance.
Mark
To me any woman is better than the first choice and any other man. Good Luck Seiko San.

Oh, the irony……
(Seiko) Hashimoto appeared at seven Olympics between 1984 and 1996,
JOC chief Yasuhiro Yamashita, 63, a gold medalist in judo at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics
The one "games" both Hashimoto, Yamashita have in common is the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
Peter Ueberroth’s L.A. Olympics: Bigger, better, richer..
https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2009-jul-18-sp-dwyre-ueberroth18-story.html
The 1984 Los Angeles Olympics is the only games that has ever turned a profit…..
The 1984 Olympics Marks the Last Time the Games Were Profitable….
https://www.sportscasting.com/the-1984-summer-olympics-marks-the-last-time-the-games-were-profitable/
Overall costs were $546 million, reports Gizmodo, with a surplus of $232.5 million in pure profit left over…….
So, this panel would be wise to look beyond, former Olympians, and stale political mediocrity. Beyond the boundaries of figureheads.
And look for their very own Peter Ueberroth…….
It is the very reason that the role of President Japan Organizing Committee, is viewed a nothing more than a figure head.
Thus the result is a budget out of control, reports suggest the final figure could reach $24 billion, the National Stadium contract as well as the fiasco over the Olympic mascot, all mired in controversy and blunders.
It is akin to recruiting a captain of a ship that hasn't clue about sailing.

She was forced to accept the position. Nobody wanted to take it.
wtfjapan
If people can’t offend anymore with opinion , it’s over
agreed, you cant say whatever you want, but your opinions can and do have consequences. offend too many people and your gone, got to love democracy hey. I mean seriously anybody with half a brain wouldn't offend women nowdays, in most democratic countries they make up over half the population and voting public. any man that thinks theyre above women should move to a country that best suits their ideology, eg Iran Saudi Arabia
InspectorGadget
So was she given the role because of her work on the Olympics, or is it because of sexist comments from the previous person in this position?
justasking
Don't take it.
Goodlucktoyou
Olympics must be stopped at all costs.
New evidence, some vaccines don’t work and have side effects. New evidence, SARS-CoV-2 can, when faced with vaccinated humans and some mammals , can mutate very quickly to bypass. New evidence, recovered Covid19 patients with new strains can get reinfected. New evidence, vaccinated people can be carriers/spreaders of the disease.
this year and next year will be the peak. 2024 Olympics is the best solution.
they are just looking for a scapegoat when the Olympics is cancelled and their pockets are lined.
Kumagaijin
I'm pretty sure the old boys club will be sitting back with their arms crossed, smirking, waiting for her to make a mistake. Even hoping she makes a mistake. Thats what they do in this country.
bob
Its always good to stop, re-read what you just typed, and take a deep breath before hitting the "post" button
Sh already made her mistake in 2014 with sexual harassment. But she gets a pass because...patriarchy or something.
Leo
I think Seiko Hashimoto will be very successfull.
Alan Harrison
Will she be allowed to speak?
William77
They (LDP) put this Lady just to save face around the world and show to the western media, look we changed things.
But the truth is that she's also a puppet of the regime and only something to display to the world.
Nothing is going to change in Japan, nothing.
The sexist education of Japanese children will continue in the name of traditions.
Kobe White Bar Owner
If she’s smart she’ll run a mile in record speed!

How to be blatantly transparent 101.

She was accused of sexual harassment a few years ago, wasn't she?
Why do you ask that if you know the answer?
hachikou
Yep, after Mori's sexiest comment, Hashimoto is a PERFECT figure to take over.
Got drunk, forcing Takahashi figure skater to kiss her with her position.
Just getting worse..
https://miniborder.com/hashimoto-kiss
taj
Important to note, I think, is that she was never accused by the skater in question.
The accusations came from a tabloid which printed photos of the party. Hashimoto apologized for her having gotten a bit silly with drink and celebration and crossing some lines of propriety and Takahashi said, "No harm, no foul."

This may be the golden ticket to jump-start the games and actually get some public support, which is down near the 70% level. Imagine your own populace AGAINST your own Olympic games. Huge leadership fail. Unknowingly Mori may have made the whole thing possible again! Wish all the very best to Hashimotosan. Go get em! ;P
Baited breath.
kohakuebisu
Is every other person with 聖 in their name named after the Olympic flame? The most famous Seiko in Japan, superstar singer Matsuda Seiko, included?
The kanji just means "sacred". Methinks the above explanation is very "tekitou".

this year and next year will be the peak. 2024 Olympics is the best solution.
no if its canceled it wont be postponed again until 2024, 2024 in Paris 2028 in Los Angeles. Paris wont be losing billions because Japan wants their spot, itll open a whole world of litigation
