Are any of them sick? No. So who cares. PCR diagnostics can find any respiratorial disease it wants to find. It's al nonsense.

Simply because viruses mutate and find ways to get more infectious (but not necessarily more dangerous). That's why we needed 70-80% to get vaccinated in the first place, not 60%. But it sounds like these people who are getting infected with the omicron variant are basically not getting seriously ill if they have been double vaccinated. Problem is these people can obviously also give the virus to unvaccinated people who could then go on to be hospitalized.

They're young, healthy athletes, they'll be fine. These viruses are primarily for those with pre-existing issues,in bad health, aged or with a weakened immune system among the usual suspects of life.

There are many young and healthy people dying from it. Do you not read the news?

All these double and triple vaxxed athletes still getting COVID.

almost makes one think that a vaccine doesn’t prevent infection and transmission,

A big problem is that these athletes have to play so close to each other. And as for the stadiums, they ain't taking the measures. Those audiences filling the stadiums are risking their lives and others'.

It's no surprize to me that CoVid is taking another swing, esp. in America. And it isn't just for sporting events. It's for theaters, concerts, conventions, rodeos, religious services.

Get vaxxed and stay home! We're not ready to 'open up' yet.

Besides, with so many athletes getting sick, the teams can't and are not playing their best.

It really makes you wonder. If the original Covid-19 strain (Alpha) was identical to the Omicron variant in severity, would there have been all these lock downs, mask and vaccine mandates, travel restrictions etc? If not, then perhaps there isn't much we should do at this point.

And as for the stadiums, they ain't taking the measures.

Some are especially in the NFL and NBA having to show the vax card upon entrance. However once inside, people take off their masks without any usher security or usher saying anything. At least in Japan's sports venues, you may not need your passport but they are on top of people taking off their masks.

And remember that viruses also don't want to die (which happens if they kill their host), so they become milder but more infectious, in order to be able to keep doing what they do. Those who are unvaccinated are just putting themselves at more risk of serious illness, it's that simple. Not a fan of injections myself but the evidence is very clear that the vaccinations do work.

Poor athletes. They won't get seriously ill from COVID, yet they'll be subject to endless jabs. Let's hope nothing serious happens to them.

@jaybeeb

According to the CDC, 80% of Omicron cases in U.S. are fully vaccinated. 33% got the booster.

People who are not vaccinated are also 30 times more likely to end up in hospital and 50 times more likely to be admitted to the ICU.

jaybeeb - just to add to that… there was recent confirmation that in NZ (small sample yes) not a single person who has been double jabbed has ended up in ICU with covid.

In English Premier League, 2 matches were postponed. Even in Formula 1's last race, one racer was outlined because he tested positive for Covid-19. Wouldnt be surprised if more get ill during end-of-season afterparties. But British need not worry. They dont feel like partying. The only thing "still rising" this year is the covid cases, haha

No, it just stops from feeling it as much, dying as often, and spreading it as much.

Poison, innit.

Most people should know covid mitigation practices by heart by this time.

Their choice to do it or not.

I wouldn't personally want to go up against this variant unvaccinated.

Unfortunately there will always be those who are more afraid of the vaccine than the virus it protects from, which has killed 800k already in the US alone.

They'll quite happily gobble down any pretty coloured pill with a Z or an X in its name, embrace the use of horse tranquilizers and household detergents and feast on hormone treated burgers. All from the Big Pharmas / Farmers that they distrust so much.

But put that medicine in a little needle and they lose their minds. Weird bunch.

Only if “one” is almost willfully ignorant of basic science and public health...

The guy in the picture seems to have had a serious wardrobe malfunction there..... looks to be in danger of dropping more than the ball.
