It sounds like she a formidable force not to be messed with, when does she meet Mrs S Williams next?

New York roots? Don't think so. Her father went to NYU but don't think she ever lived there.

Last time Naomi Osaka met Simona Halep (the current #1), she lost 6-1,6-0. So yeah, there you have it, she might win against some nobody, but not really in the top 10.

I saw an interview with her a few days ago on TV, I never really seen her interviewed before. About 3 sentences in, she just started speaking English when interviewed in Japanese. Did she spend most of her time living in the States? I hope she improves her Japanese over time as she is listed as a Japanese player representing the nation.

First of all not everyone in Haiti is poor, that's like saying everyone in Japan is rich. She moved to the states when she was three. Maybe that's why she speaks in English after all it's supposed to be a free country. Just let her play tennis and be thankful that she still wants to represent Japan.

Naomi beat Halep in Indian Wells this year (6-3, 6-0).

Never underestimate this young girl, especially on a hard court.

Oh, by the way, you don't have to worry about Osaka vs Halep match in this US Open. They will never meet.

@Bungle,
Naomi Osaka's father is a successful man who had vision and made the right moves (along with his Japanese wife). It's as simple as that.
