Seeing Japan play a quality rugby team has the potential to kill off rugby in Japan. Most games you see on TV here are Waseda vs some other university; reasonable quality but nothing like international standard.

Japanese people don't realise that their national team is going to get murdered by any of the top 15 teams in the world.

The J team do get murdered by the top teams every Rugby World Cup. But they are getting better and will continue to do so if they play good teams. I would watch this....

Bit of an overstatement that one. Springboks/ England/ All Blacks/ Wallabies/ Wales/ Ireland/ Argentina/ France - yes. Possibly Scotland/ possibly Italy. That makes only 10 nations. And Japan are capable of beating everyone else and they would give Scotland and Italy a good game so that makes 8 nations who could 'murder' Japan, not 15.

cow76, the Japanese people DO KNOW that their team has continuously been savaged by the all blacks, aussies and many more. Passion for the game though still runs deep.

Agree with northlondon that japan can on any given day give many of the northern hemisphere teams a good fight.

I saw the Bledisloe Cup game that was played in HK and there was passion amongst the fans and the players even though it was played outside of the home countries. Will be up in Tokyo for the 31Oct!

Watching NZ beat Japan 152-0 in a World Cup Game is still etched in my memory. I'm sure they've improved since then but still...I think Australia will win about 60-10. More if Australia plays its best team.

Cow76: etched in wrongly. the score was 145 - 17. took your point though.

I think this fixture will be great for rugby in Japan. cow76, As I've read this article I don't see any reason for the Japanese national team to be worried at all. The fixture is Australia v New Zealand. All the Japanese players need to worry about is getting tix. Aus v NZ, 60-10? I think the score will be a bit closer.

't will be an epic game, All Blacks s Wallabies, if it happens. Both are class teams, rivals yet close in playing style. Each time one wins, the other ups it's game. And I'm sure the ex-pat Aussies and Kiwis will give a good crowd, not to mention the avid Japanese Rugby followers.

On the subject of the Brave Blossoms (Japan) they have gotten better. Granted they are no match for the top teams but they (in my opinion) have graduated from a low class team to a middle class team, in a short time. They could give many European teams a run for their money, and gave France a shock in the World Cup last time.

Plus I like their playing style, run the ball, attack any chance they get. They are my favorite team besides the All Blacks (pretty good considering I'm Kiwi)

No, last world cup saw France beat New Zeland...you speak probably of the 2003 cup for the third place (40-13 for NZ)
