If the issue was settled and he was never found guilty, why are we even discussing this?

Twitter users can't help themselves.  Having said that, the whole incident was a typical celeb hush job.  his legal team arranged for her to be paid off for dropping the charges.

But his having died absolves him of all past allegations and misdeeds.

Because there is a small yet vocal minority of people who could be described as social puritans who do not care about things like timing, redemption, or decency.

Damn puritans, getting all up in arms about things like rape. How silly is that?

Alleged rape.

Guilty or not, it was settled. If she wanted to press charges and get publicity in 2003, she could have and should have. For whatever reason, she decided against that action. Nobody went to court. Nobody was convicted of anything.

I'm not much of a sports fan. Don't know anything about Mr. Bryant besides the name - guess he plays basketball? Something from 2003 is just as relevant as the 30 Marines that were killed on the same date, but in 2005, in a helicopter crash in Iraq. Sad, but not relevant.

Odd that people are so forgiving of Kobe Bryant. When Japanese guys have paid money to settle rape allegations, this has been roundly condemned especially in Japan Today comments.

Alleged rape.

You missed the point. This guy thinks that people who have a problem with rape are "puritans".

Um yeah.

Just because people die you don’t whitewash or erase their past.

Rape is rape, and rapists are bad...even if it happens to be your favorite player.

Money makes bad things go away!
