I've watched only the second set of Medvedev-Karatsev, the level was insane, Medvedev didn't play bad, but Karatsec was from another planet. And yes, Medvedev monologues were funny, even Rublev was giggling in the stands.

Tonight, Nishikori is praying Zverev won't be in the same great form as last week...

Rafael Nadal held off a strong challenge from local teenager Jannik Sinner to prevail 7-5, 6-4.

I love this sentence. Makes it sound like they just pulled a kid off the streets and handed him a racket.

Daniil Medvedev lost 6-2, 6-4 to fellow Russian Aslan Karatsev

Thoroughly entertaining meltdown by the hotheaded Medvedev. Late in the 2nd set he was carrying on a loud running commentary (in English - not sure who that was supposed to benefit as he usually speaks French with his coach) about everything that was going wrong. At one point he just started shouting "Mama mia!" (the tournament is in Italy).

@Dave and @bass4funk - Why? Honest curiosity.

Let's focus on the positives, which include some sense of normalcy with professional sports moving again and giving us people to root for and things to talk about other than politics and COVID. I've always enjoyed the chance to watch the Williams sisters over the last two decades.

Thanks - I appreciate the explanation! Personally I like Osaka, but I think I can imagine where you're coming from. There is a lack of...graciousness?...that's missing from her persona sometimes, especially with the media. Maybe it's youth like you said, or maybe it's more of a social awkwardness that's an inherent part of her personality. I see it come out when she deals with the media specifically, but much less so if she's talking to another player or the fans.

@Pukey2: I'm not familiar with Jessica Pegula

She had a nice run in Australia earlier this year. If you know North American sports at all, she's the daughter of Terry and Kim Pegula, who are the co-owners of the NFL's Buffalo Bills and the NHL's Buffalo Sabres.

Osaka is being Osaka, she has her own voice and haters will hate, that comes with being on top.

I'm not familiar with Jessica Pegula but I'm sure it's a confidence booster for her to have beaten her compatriot.

For me personally it’s kind of like this, well I honestly think Osaka is a very good player, I think she needs to be a little bit more seasoned in the way she conducts herself personally with the public, and I understand she is young, but she needs to grow up a little bit more, and if she’s gets taken down a peg or two from time to time that might help shape her and adjust her attitude a bit.

But don’t get me wrong, Osaka is talented for sure, she just needs to mentally grow up more and with agr comes experience and I think she’ll definitely make wiser decisions, so she’s allowed to be wild and crazy, but I just don’t like when the media tries to use this woman for political gain and that’s not cool, leave the kid alone and let her find her own way. Wish her luck and Willams, love her a lot, but she’s got enough money and she’ll be fine, she’s not hurting, they’ll be other matches.
