A couple of things we, or I, learned from this.

Speaking from experience, playing in 35+ degree heat with 70% humidity is no joke. Can't believe FIFA put commercial interests above player safety and the quality of the game. Can't wait to see how Qatar is going to work out...

Also, it was a penalty, as it was a foul. Can't agree though with Robben making it look worse than it actually was. He should really avoid it, as he doesn't need it. However, we could have had a penalty at the end of the first half.

That's about as good as it got. Mexico was the better team for most of the game I have to admit, but stoked we're through. Glad plan B worked for Van Gaal, now he has to work on his plan A as there is lots to improve, mostly defensively and in midfield. Otherwise we're out before the semis....

I can't agree more....especially about the heat thing, what numbnuts decided to have a match in the middle of the day? Holland was playing 12 opponents, a fierce Mexico and the heat.

Robben could get a new job as a diving instructor. The guy's got talent though and his legs are quick when he starts moving.

Much of the game was actually pretty boring, but gradually it came alive. Mexico were really tough and feisty, showing so much finesse and adroitness with the ball; they won my admiration. It must have been heart-rending to lose like that in the final minutes.

. It must have been heart-rending to lose like that in the final minutes.

After the 1-0 Holland put and kept the pressure on Mexico, after the 1-1. it was just a matter of waiting till Holland would sink the next goal. I'm sure Mexico wanted to push for a pk shoot out, but I'm happy it never came to that.

Sorry, but Mexico played horribly: it lost because it played defensive after the goal, just waiting the final whistle. Just like USA x Portugal. Herrera made two tactical mistakes that cost Mexico its victory: he took out two attackers and replaced them by two defenders, thus stalling Mexico's game. In the time-out, Holland did the contrary, it changed its configuration moving one defender ahead, making him an attacker. That is what made the game much more thrilling in the second half, and gave them the victory.

Robben however insisted Proenca had been right to award the penalty, telling Dutch broadcaster NOS: “I was fouled.”

I was fouled in first half too. If the penalty was awarded in first half, it is more reasonable. I am more likely a diver instead of striker. It is debatable whether I was fouled or not in second half. I like acting with a bit exaggeration during the match.

But Robben did admit to a dive in an unsuccessful attempt to win a penalty earlier in the first half.

Robin should go to Hollywood for becoming the good actor.

I really have to say and at the same time apologise in the first half I took a dive and I really shouldn’t do that,” Robben said.

I really have to day that I am an experienced cheater. I have already committed dirty trick for winning the game. I have lost the reputation as decent and honest player.

Can't see what the fuss is about. He may have drawn the foul but he was definitly brought down. I think this talk of diving might be to deflect from the fact that the Mexican defence let him slip by 3 players in the penalty box before he was fouled. Robben has been one of the best players of this tournament. If you want to watch a diver follow Suarez at Liverpool or Gareth Bale at Real. Now they are experts.

"The determining factor was the man with the whistle. He put us of the World Cup,” Herrera said."

It was the slightest of touches. The Mexican captain Marquez had planted his foot, Robben got a light touch but then he flopped over in the manner of an Oscar winner. His offence was worse than Suraez who did not change the outcome of match. Cheat to win is not the glory for winner who is the champion of fall and fall again.

Referee should go back to see Video playback for his unforgivable incompetence . His error at last minute of game has caused the cruelty and injustice for honest and hardworking players. There are many referee errors in this world cup including Bosnia and Nigeria offside goal.

Never been a hige fan of Robben, talented as he is. He has always beena bit of a drama queen.

Zenpun

Theatrics or not, in that situation that deep in the box a player has to be stupid if he thinks he can plant his foot like Marquez did in front of Robben, who was in control of the ball to boot, and not come away with a foul. At 93 minutes with the score tied, it was more a penalty kick served to the Dutch on a silver platter than a dive.

WHAT A GAME!!!!

Netherlands scored two goals at the end of the match, and last one was a penalty!!! Robben’s action is being fully commeted in the social networks, was it foul? He has become the most commented forward of today in the World Cup.

Sour grapes, some complainers must have seen a different match, but the last 30 minutes were completely ruled by the Dutch. The Mexicans were done and the pk just released them from more suffering. Nobody steals your victory, if there wasn't one to steal one anyway. The Mexicans had a great first half, but couldn't cash in on that, they even got away with a true red card assault on Robben... I never heard so many cry babies, especially from the continent were they invented dirty play . You lost from a better team, get over it.

@Dutchduck

It's not "sour grapes". That would be "We didn't want the World Cup anyway."

Surely you folk have an equivalent expression? Zuure druiven or something?

Not all referee will made the same decision as that one. That one lacks the common sense.

Mexico coach Miguel Herrera lashed out at referee Proenca for awarding the penalty.Television replays suggested he had a point.

If you replay your video, he was ready to fall before the physical contact. His facial expression is in Agony. In the die hard tournament, it should not be biased with injustice. I am not a soccer Guru however most of the world wide news media concluded that penalty was the error of referee. In 2010 WC, Mexico was sent home with injustice. It was the referee error too.

Argentinian goal against Mexico allowed despite scored from an offside position – led to renewed debate over the lack of video technology in refereeing in 2010 WC.

Wow, I looked it up and you're right, thanks, so what's the proper idiom to use to describe somebody who's bitter for not getting what he wants and throws a tantrum like 5 year old? Ah wait sore losers! Slechte overpowers in Dutch.

"Sore losers" 'll do it...

But the "adios amigos" tweet from KLM was a bit over the top....

I agree, they're following up on a bit of Dutch humor, which can be quiet crude....but for an international company they should have known better.
