The question is will you English fans here just turn off the World Cup or pull for Japan, your second home?

England have been unlucky in both games but not good enough to impose themselves and make luck not matter.

Doesn't hurt so bad losing to Uruguay and its nice to see Suarez get a bit of payback on the FA.

Gerrard was an absolute liability again, please let that be his last game for England.

As an Englishman with several decades behind me of watching England let me say: It doesn't hurt anymore.

We'll still go through - Italy to win both their games and England will rack up the goals against Costa Rica.

Davestrousers, go to bed. You're already dreaming. Although I'll admit mathematically it's possible. But then, so is winning lotto.

'As an Englishman with several decades behind me of watching England let me say: It doesn't hurt anymore.'

They remind me of a not too smart son who tries his best but isn't the brightest. They bring out my paternal side. I can't get angry at them for not being very interesting, wasting my time and making me tired anymore. To be brutally honest, if they go home early, very few outside England will miss them.

A couple of English mates are still upbeat about the Lions going deep into the tournament. Personally, I think it's the 15 beers talking ...

Rooney bore the brunt of criticism after the Italy game. Wonder if Gerrard will get the same treatment after this game. Absolute liability, and yet seems immune from criticism.

Neither. I'll keep on watching the games and make a special point of watching the teams that entertain, so that's neither England nor Japan. Germany, Chile and the Netherlands are the ones who've caught my eye up to now.

Usual diappointment and I frankly think chances are they will lose to Costa Rica too. suarez may be good but both goals were largely due to sloppy England play. and yes, Steviw Gerard should be retired.

Latinos - Americans and Europeans - have the power in soccer, plus Germany, Holland.

Even though I'm an Aussie I was rooting for the Poms... not literally :(...nothing worse than seeing Uruguay win. England will come good one day.

Its not that unlikely. We need Italy, a decent team, to beat two average teams. There's maybe a 30% chance of that. England will pump Costa Rica. Biggest danger is Italy will take it easy once they've qualified.

The question is will you English fans here just turn off the World Cup or pull for Japan, your second home?

For reasons stated above, I'm supporting Italy.

England will pump Costa Rica.

I know Costa Ricans who are saying the exact same thing in the opposite direction after watching England bumble through their first 2 games.

As Homer Simpson once said, if you have no expectations, you'll never be disappointed...... A statement that applies perfectly to the England team...

a) I'd call 30% "that unlikely," but maybe I'm alone there b) If it really were a case of needing "a decent team to beat 2 average teams," why would you set the odds so low at 30%?

Just because when teams only need a draw to go through, which Italy probably will, they often get just that. Well anyway, its certainly better than the chances of a lotto win and a lot better than nothing.

I got Brazil and Holland in the office sweep so now my loyalties ally with my pocket.

The English play a weird, harried, rushed 100-miles-an-hour game that looks messy and very unsystematic imo. In fact, I don't like the way they play, I think it's quite ugly. Doesn't seem to be much craft to it.

But I'm really sorry they lost to Uruguay. I have no respect for them at all. The team or the fans.

Australia has Queensland, NSW and Tasmania. Japan has Honshu, Hokkaido and Kyushu. USA has California, Arizona and Florida. Why not England team play as UK or Britain according other national teams?

I guess If Scotland or Wales or Northern Ireland talents will come and play for WC, they may shower the goals for the birth place of football or soccer.

To compare Australian/American states or the islands of Japan to the UK isn't a very well-informed comparison. When it comes to the traditions of football, many Scots wouldn't dream of playing alongside the old enemy and often support any team which plays against England. I can imagine a few toasts to England's probable WC demise north of the border today. I suppose the English can take comfort in the knowledge that arguably no Scottish player would get in our average side. Gareth Bale is a different story.

The English, Scottish, Welsh and Ulster football leagues are all separate organisations, which entitles them to field separate teams.

All the better for it, I reckon....
