World Cup sponsors press FIFA over corruption claims

Major sponsors Adidas, Sony and Visa on Sunday demanded that FIFA thoroughly investigate corruption allegations over Qatar’s 2022 World Cup bid, piling pressure on soccer’s rulers over the scandal.

Money talks. Looks like FIFA is finally going to have to become more transparent as the IOC has. Long overdue.

everyone in the world knows the whole process was corrupt, how else would a such a small nation that barely even plays the game gets awarded the most prestigious tournament. money talks, and the scumbags walk.

Amazing it has taken them so long. FIFA is a cesspit that is long overdur being reformed.

Would be great if both locations were rescinded. After the Winter Olympics joke Putin has proved how corrupt his government is, and clearly Qatar is not much different.

Give the 2018 WC to the USA and then in 2022 bring it back to Asia and have Australia host. Would be winter in Australia in June so no worries about searing temperatures. 1994 was a great success for the WC in the USA.

What do you expect from an organization with Blatter at it's head? He's one of the most obviously corrupt people in sport, it's just that they haven't been able to make anything stick because he's so good at doing his dirty work in secret.

League teams around the world should refuse to allow their players to play in Qatar because of health risks. Let's see how quickly the crook Blatter changes his tune then.

Looks like the chickens are coming home to roost. It's no wonder Blatter is desperately saying Qatar was a mistake.

The 2018 Russian bid must stand, there is no direct evidence of any wrongdoing, it would be harsh, unfair and totally counter-productive in not perusing the huge economic opportunities the World Cup would bring to growing the Russian Football Premier League. If Russia's 2018 World Cup bid has been bought, it would be a shocking waste of money as the bid clearly presented a overwhelming case for holding the WC in the Russian Federation.

Little doubt David Cameron and our HRH Prince William were publicly humiliated after a majority of Fifa officials told them both they would vote for England to host WC 2018. However I am afraid the Fifa officials two faced wickedness is not a justifiable reason to rerun the 2018 bid process.

There is concrete evidence Qatar’s 2022 World Cup bid was achieved by corruption and bribery on a vast scale. There is grounds for optimism though, it was pressure from the sponsors over the 2002 Olympic Winter Games bid scandal that finally brought wholesale change to the IOC , and subsequent legal charges against the leaders of Salt Lake's bid committee by the United States Department of Justice.

Australia should get the 2022 World Cup.
