On Jan. 28, 2025, a massive sinkhole suddenly opened in Yashio City, Saitama Prefecture, swallowing a two-ton truck and claiming the life of its 74-year-old driver.

What followed was a grueling rescue effort, hindered by unstable ground, flooding and the unexpected expansion of the sinkhole into a massive crater.

Really liked this. I had a lot of questions answered.

I know it's oversimplistic but if it was the power cables preventing the helicopters getting in there, for the sake of an innocent human life, couldn't they have just cut the cables?

Present LDP politics that prioritize to benefit large corporations than important basic infrastructures for life of citizen.

And the Niigata river flows into the Nakagawa and then Arakawa. I have t ridden my bike along them for a while. Hopefully no one fishing there like I sometimes see.

I hope the fire department comes up with a good rescue strategy for the future. Sounds like this was the perfect storm though. All the sewage from east Saitama ending up in one point. This spot. Plus all the cables and pipes together.
