KDDI said Thursday that data communication services for au smartphones and tablet devices had been disrupted between 12:05 a.m. and 1:53 a.m. affecting about 1.8 million users nationwide on Wednesday.
KDDI said the disruption had mainly affected its proprietary ezweb e-mail service. The Nikkei reported that around 1.75 million users using devices that employ LTE high-speed communication technology were unable to access the Internet. The cause of the disruption is currently unknown, the company said.
The announcement follows news that disruption also affected 1.8 million users between midnight on New Year's Eve and 4:23 a.m. on New Year's Day. Shortly afterwards, between 12:12 a.m. and 2:29 a.m. on Jan 1 and again between 9:30 a.m. and 8:07 p.m. the same day, users were unable to use any services that required their au ID numbers.

Tragic really, but apparently either no KDDI au users read Japan Today or the disruption wasn't significant enough to comment....
