Meta's new Twitter rival app Threads gets tens of millions of sign-ups in its first day

Musk has made a series of changes that have triggered backlash, the latest being daily limits on the number of tweets people can view to try to stop unauthorized scraping of potentially valuable data.

People just being tired with unnecessary Elon's restriction.

I do not believe that Musk is the genius that he claims unless you consider swindling dumb people.

Elon just made it easier by laying off thousands of his employees while using a ploy to make the rest quit and demanding "hardcore" work schedules for those who remained. Poaching? Companies hire employees from rivals all the time. California's "At Will" employment laws mean that even though your employer can walk you out the door for no reason, right after that you can get a job the next day at the main competitor. They are taking their experience and training to a job where they can use their skills.

What a surprise if you have billions of user on your two main platforms.

And Twitter has just dropped a lawsuit against Threads claiming it is a copy of Twitter developed by former Twitter employees using Twitter proprietary knowledge. Threads claims it is not using former Twitter employees. This might be better than the proposed cage match.

These are the basic functions that almost every app has. This should've been included before the roll-out. It's basic. "It'll take time," come on.

The only tagline they need for this is ‘Like Twitter if it wasn’t run by Elon Musk.’

It would be quite ironic if, a couple of years from now, it turns out that the biggest outcome of Musk's takeover of Twitter was to allow Meta to take over the "user-to-public" text based social media market.

No doubt if that happens Musk's supporters will be on here bragging about how that was his plan all along....

I reckon people are actually slowly getting over this nonsense. Actually users across all platforms are mostky down across the board. Threads is a smoke screen to keep investors happy .

The EU legislation will spread as other governments seek to take back control of their digital borders. For that reason, if for no other, the data scraping is a bad idea. Advertisers simply want to target people with an interest in their product, so instead of scraping data and analysing it to target users (rather poorly in my experience), they should simply ask users to submit preferences for advertising and discounted offers, so they don't see ones that are completely irrelevant to them. They would get better data without falling foul of government traps. Moving user data in a completely distributed manner, user to user, they would avoid being a default pan-national censor of content and the impossible demands that brings. They would also save themselves a sack of money on bandwidth and server farms. They could concentrate on maintaining the quality of the service and serve ads for profit. Unfortunately, GAFA hasn't innovated to any great extent for years, so an opportunity missed. The chance of replacing GAFA is still there: just fork an e-mail client, add the handling of rich content, move it from user to user, encrypted, using the e-mail protocol, and you have a distributed social media network. Minimal costs, all censorship controlled by users, singly or communally, self-censoring what they see according to their own needs, and ask them which ads they want - no need for any data scraping. Not knowing who your users are, where they are, or what they are posting, is an asset.

Japanese websites actually appeal better to how cultural Asians look at images. Westerners are more prone to looking at the foreground first. So westerners work well with call-to-actions, that stand out in the page in the foreground, where cultural Asians will see the background more, and therefore are better able to parse sites we see as 'cluttered'.

This will ultimately sink twitter. The hate groups and pedophile stories have exploded on twitter since the Musk take over. As a result they lost significant advertising revenue, so now twitter is so restrictive unless you pay up. Throw in all the glitches, people are ready for an alternative. Not to mention the super dated interface.

Advertisers will be happy to throw their money at a Meta company, as there is more moderation and will likely be more users in years to come.

Right-wing social media cannot logically be successful. There will never be enough people who want to hear what right-wingers want to say, to make any kind of successful right-wing social media.

Look at Twitter - it was heavily entrenched in the lead, and in less than a year, the right-wingers have tanked it. It's a worse debacle than MySpace ever was.

Android can do it all but you really have to dig deep sometimes to find what you need. Apple tends to be much simpler for the basics, but can be more difficult for some of the technical stuff.

That's actually UX (user experience) not web design. User Experience designers will build the IA (Information Architecture) so that data is available where users expect it to be.

I've never heard of a Japanese company employing a UX designer. And in that regards, Japan is way behind the west. My earlier comments were only in regards to the visual design.
