So, Mr. Son did not raise his hand either.

Japan and A.I........this is the land of the fax and Walkman and not much as changed since they were introduced,TBH.

Interesting, he said this after his recent travel in South Korea, where apparently he made some deals with some Korean Companies in developing AI.

Japan is the second largest filer of patents in the US. Why do people keep saying that Japanese have no creativity.

"Japan and A.I........this is the land of the fax and Walkman and not much as changed since they were introduced,TBH."
but Japan is home to most nobel prize winners and perhaps you and Mr. Son could explain following stats:
"Of the top 20 AI developers applying for patents, 12 are Japanese "

LOL LOL

No, Japan is 7th
US, UK and Germany - top 3
yoshisan88
Just like ifd66 points out Japan is 7th but if you mean most Nobel prize winning Asian country then it is true. However, the last 2 Japanese Noble prize winner are in 2016 and 2018, they won the Noble prize for medicine. Japan is top notch in the field of medicine. No doubt about it. The six Nonle prize categories are Literature, Economy. Physiology or Medicine, Physics, Chemistry and Peace. AI is Computer engineering (I think) so how us wining Noble prizes relevant to the development of AI.
LOL, LOL, LOL!

Big Son fan here. Love his investment in companies like Grab and ARM. Less sure about WeWork but what do I know.

Ohhh really..........
We were unknown unless Son say it

I wonder if he's taking a swipe at Public Education here, and saying that the only Intelligence being developed here is Artificial Intelligence ?
BeerDeliveryGuy
Japan develops AI technology is perhaps what he meant to say? Japan does possess the technology, but is slow to implement it due to the permeation of previous generation infrastructure.

The head of a company whose money comes from a price-gouging, restrictive domestic oligopoly. If japan's tech industry is moribund, it's due to manipulative, self-serving hypocrites like himself.
Wesley
I think what he is saying is that Japan is losing out to countries like US & china, or (thanks to bureaucracy) is slower to implement them when compared to US & china . He's not saying that Japan is doing nothing about AI...just that they are slower to move while others have already taken the stage. The amount of red tape & channels a young IT engineer has to go through to hawk an idea just kills off any initiative.
Japan seems more developed in physical tech ( like engineering) rather than software ( like cryptocurrency & AI). Why do you think...for such a high tech country...they are repeated having their cryptocurrency hacked?
With a declining population, faster investment in AI can help Japan overcome shortages.

From wiki:
So let's cut the man some slack. He is actually doing something to help Japanese society.
I think his criticism & critical attitude stems from frustration with Japan's stale education system that doesn't foster the "gung-ho" spirit of entrepreneurship and the government red tape.
