People like you wouldn't know what I mean if I wrote "spinner module engineer", hence using the layman's term. Incidentally, what is the preferred term these days for "English teacher" in Japan? "Education consultant" or something? Do tell!

oh, it's not so free market now?

I know. I'll be working there once it's opened, seeing as I am a semiconductor engineer. Your comment shows you know nothing of who is pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Send the fax in, we will take care of it..

but the lead company, the actual chipmaker, is Taiwanese I believe.....

ASML gives the world's leading chipmakers the power to mass produce patterns on silicon
She is not really up to date. In the Netherlands there they make the best machines to produce this stuff.
ASML clients Samsung and many more, China want the machines as well but do not get them

If you can’t sell to China, you won’t have the economies of scale on your side to make money in production, not to mention the data.
Another example of how US shoots itself in the foot. Japan’s problem was that it was an up and coming no.2 that had to be reckoned with. The U.S. did an excellent job to prevent Japan from overtaking the US.
The same with Germany and EC. The EU is also a threat to the US. The pipelines from Russia must be stopped.
We’re now watching how the U.S. will deal with China. The old insurrection trick hasn’t worked. China knows there are 400 US biological labs all over the world. The lockdowns are China’s disaster drills practicing for the next virus.

Harris said the U.S. understands that "no one country can satisfy the globe's demand" and "it is important that we and our allies partner and coordinate in a way that allows us to grow and in a way that allows us to function at a very practical level."
Nice to see she hasn't lost her eloquence and her incisive analytical skills.

semicondutors 28 - 24 nm and gpu and AI chips 7-5 nm .. these machines are complete different
Yes japan can pickup the 7-5 nm fabs with help of the USA and The Netherlands it is the savest place in asia to do this and are good freinds with the two countries..
So Japan go for it .

Ah yes, the great unwashed and dumb citizens need to be led by the enlightened elites.
Chip fab facilities are already under construction in the US and didn’t need this new taxpayer handout, but let’s do it anyway to look like we did something.

Japan has the capability produce the products. A lot of parts in various products like flagship smart devices and computers are made by Japanese companies. The challenges might come with the demand for large production and acquire materials. Japan would need to pay better incentives to get better employees. Also, China has been trying to use monopolies like the rare earth industry both on Earth and the moon to make money and to exert influence over other countries and businesses like Russia has been doing.
India is another option, but they cannot be trusted like China and Russia. There is potential in certain African countries, but Western countries especially the ones that actually caused a lot of the problems on the African continent and the Middle East are unwilling to invest.

And the opposite holds true in China, they need someone to buy their cheap goods

Sounds like another moneygrab via the US. Gotta love America!

How scared they are of China..

It makes sense to diversify the supply chain with established manufacturers, especially amidst anticipated friction with China.

The funeral was the previous day. How long should one wait before conducting business after a funeral?
Why would the US subsidize something it get no benefit from? The US is simply looking out for it's interest.
Cry me a river.

I like the masks and mask nots...Guess the US doesn't subscribe to mask wearing..

Japan is good at making the machines required to manufacture semiconductors. No semiconductor fab in the world would work without the likes of TEL, SCREEN, etc.. However, Japan has long since dropped the ball on actual semiconductor manufacturing. Sure, the likes of SONY and KIOXIA still exist, but no way will there ever be a Japanese version of TSMC or Samsung; the Japanese just can't get it together, and that ship has long since sailed.

sounds like the perfect place to court with funding then.... (^_-)
