They just only want to shift their operational costs to us the end users, companies and individuals. It's a clever chess move so far, but only if everyone abides and buys the expensive hardware like new computers with AI specific chips etc. But in practice or practical use cases AI is so far very much disappointing and full of contradicting, incomplete, incorrect and sometimes hallucinating outputs, and this remains such, for sure. So I guess they won't get fully through with this attempt. A few naives and not so much math skilled people, institutions or politicians and governments will still believe in AI becoming a success and wish they found the holy grail, then take all the burdens and costs and buy scaling-up tech or build massively power stations, but they just will get the same non-results at the end of their longer and flatter learning curve, no problem.
