AI panel urges U.S. to boost tech skills amid China's rise

Greater efforts to root out patriarchy, whiteness, asianess; and flooding Silicon Valley with diversity hires should do the trick. The Chinese will go down on their knees, begging for mercy.

A preference for hiring white males misses an awful lot of good talent. The US has been guilty of this in the past. There is nothing wrong with seeking out talent among the many other ethnic groups in the US who have been over looked, even rejected for such work, in the past. Intelligence and imagination are not confined to white people! The US in the past has denied non whites entry into the best universities and best jobs. As a result you had generations of blacks and Hispanics with nobody in their family who ever held a degree or worked in a lab. Many had effectively no schooling at all as the whole idea of educating non whites was offensive to whites who held the power in the nation. That has changed but it appears some whites remain uncomfortable seeing non-whites succeed and it seems you still think non-whites cannot perform at the same high level as whites. It also appears many whites are still blind to the advantages whites have over non-whites in educational opportunities and in the workplace. The black population in the US in particular started off as slaves with no education and no property, and whites have begrudged them every increment of advancement they have achieved, throwing up every possible road block to their progress and claiming their struggles as "proof" of their inferiority. I just get sick of it.

The future will favor those with a good education and a willingness to work at many things in their life. Sliding out of high school with Cs and onto an assembly line or into a mine somewhere is not going to bring in much income or provide much job security. A bachelors degree is a bare minimum and best to have one in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). That is where the best paying and most abundant jobs will be and where nations will be successful. Mindless, repetitive assembly line work is not going to earn anyone a middle class income any more. Rewards will flow to those with a higher education and a willingness to be flexible in what they do.
