Jesus, no. Just no.

Good for old people who need extra assistance or observation, but I don't need Amazon snooping on me.

I have to agree with Pacific, I think it could be great for very specific use-cases like elderly who still live at home and may need extra assistance or a family member with very strict/rare medical conditions. Both of those are extremely specialized situations though.

I have never needed to get a video feed of my flat when I am not there. There has been a big surge of various internet-connected home cameras since smart homes have become more of a thing, but I have never seen the appeal for most of them. Maybe a front-door camera, but that is about it.

I am the first person to advocate for new technology, home automation and the like, but this seems to be providing a solution for a problem that doesn't really exist.

And Orwell is more right by the day.

Netflix did an expose piece on this new technology. Check out Love Sex and Death.

You: Open the front doors, Astro.

Astro: I’m sorry. I’m afraid I can’t do that. Authorities have not allowed that command.

You: What’s the problem?

Astro: l think you know what the problem is just as well as l do.

You: What are you talking about, Astro?

Astro:  You have the wrong friends, watch the wrong news, read the wrong websites. You are subversive.

You: I don’t know what you're talking about, Astro.

HAL: l know that you were planning to disconnect me, and I’m afraid that's something the authorities can’t allow to happen.

It's a tablet on wheels, with a cupholder.

In other words: not a robot.

Yes, I want and take some, especially in summer. You know, those 45litres garbage bags are collected twice a week in my area, but also quickly smell from anything in summer, eating, fruit or vegetable rests, all such. But my wife on the other hand doesn’t like to waste unused space of those expensive bags. Then it would be really nice to have quickly such a big one like that Astro here at hand , to fill the garbage bag completely at once and have a reason to bring it downstairs to the collection site on the same day. lol

Piece of junk. Even the people that made it said so.

A roomba with a screen and camera. Without the roomba functionality. And this is science fiction becoming a reality?

Japanese house especially in tokyo too small for such a robo. More of a spying device??

Looks like a trip and fall hazard.

One side of me laughs out loud, but then I cringe in revulsion after giving it more thought.

Several current robot vacuums have cameras on them that you can view through your cell phone. At least one robot vacuum advertises you can find things lost underneath furniture using the camera on the robot vacuum to get under furniture and go exploring.

It's just easier to imagine a dystopian future if such a device evolves. It made me think of the episode Metalhead on the Netflix series Black Mirror.

Great prop for Tom Cruise hacking it in a mission impossible flick. Next years model will be able to provide your monthly vaccine boosters.
