When did one of them independently produce EUV equipment?
China is looking for high-end EUV equipment in the West, not Japanese bullshitry.
I am aware of your US military background, so you certainly have an American bias. I live, work and study with the Chinese for a long time. Boys, we are so wrong most of the times. For example, the solar industry in 2009 where China used not to have anything produced by their own. However, China managed to independently develop all equipments on their own after 3 years. Now, they totally dominate solar industry.
China has been going on a buying spree of Japanese equipments even if those equipments are crappy or old. Just to show how determined they are really. You don't really understand the rationale behind their action. They are buying all chipmaking equipment that they can find, so they can reverse-engineer the whole production line. China successfully produced the 300nm production line, and it's merely a matter of time that they will catch us up.

well as far as i know, japan ranks high as a resources provider for semiconductor manufacturing. Tokyo electron and canon are great companies and Both rank extremely high as equipment providers for most advanced semiconductor manufacturers.

SMIC is currently incapable of making the most advanced and smallest microchips. No Chinese company currently has this capability. Since it is now denied the advanced chip making technology available to nations friendly to the US it has put a serious dent in their ability to compete internationally at the highest levels of technology.

Meanwhile, SMIC had the means to make 7nm (probably achieved 14nm on their own) chips under almost unlimited financial backing from the Chinese government. I am not even talking about the ARM JV in China that was owned by a Chinese military company, and of course, the Chinese military (CCP itself) has even more resources.

It is merely a matter of time that China will master the chipmaking technologies. Biden needs to do something constructively quick!
Small fry. The US is going to give 20 billion dollars for Intel to build chips, while China is roughly around the same amount.

The semiconductor is insanely expensive and resource-hungry. I doubt Japan can find a way back to the old glorious days.
