What exactly does "server issues" mean? How can server capacity be such a bottleneck in a country as rich and connected as Japan? Line has millions of users. Are you saying they can't buy the servers, configure them and connect them? "Server issues" doesn't really explain the actual problem. If you know the actual reason in detail, it'd be great to understand it and know it.

Gaijinland - are you pretending that you're actually playing the game? I've downloaded it from the US store too. and it's just a Google Map.

I downloaded it too and yep... apart from having the initial Pokemon, there is nothing but a big Google map.

The server capacity issue is ridiculous, it's probably them who underestimated the demand for this game and are scrambling to set up more clusters. The penetration of this game will likely be far higher than Europe and on the same level as the US and Australia so the server capacity requirements would be on a different level to everywhere bar the US

Probably because Japan Inc is still running on windows 95!

They cancelled it because email was leaked detailing the McDonald's tie in. It hadn't been officially announced yet. It was supposed to have been released yesterday morning. Nikkei Shinbun covered it last night.

How can anyone be against a mobile game that finally encourages players to get out of their couch, get outside and walk, excercise and learn about the history of your area to collect virtual monsters as a reward? Do you rather have your kids play games all day long inside behind a pc with microwaved food and cola af their side not moving an inch and still not knowing there is a temple a block away of your house? Anyone against pokemon Go is just a silly "im afraid of changes and am a stubborn nitwit" kind of person.

Actually there were a few games like that already. This one is just more cutesy.

but there is PLENTY wrong with it, as can be seen by complaints in other nations of kids (and adults) going onto private property

And that makes the game bad?

Folks, Geocaching is much better. In Geocaching, you are actually searching for real objects cleverly hidden in which you have to use hints, clues, and your geosense to find it. Many of these caches also include little trinkets that can be traded and also includes trackable coins and trinkets that travel the world. Great for kids and even the "geopet".

I stand corrected. Was never interested in playing the game, just wanted to see if it works here. And besides, I just deleted it. I thought Pokemon was pointless 20 years ago and that my class mates were wasting their time. Smart phones have just made things worse and people "less smart". But there's always money to be made pandering to the lowest common denominator.

Sairu Ando: "How can anyone be against a mobile game that finally encourages players to get out of their couch, get outside, and walk, exercise, and learn about hte history of your area..."

There have been a number of health-orientated games in the past, most notably with Nintendo Wii Fit (and praise to the Japanese company for inventing it!), but there are plenty of reasons why this game might be good in theory, and have people's interests in line with profit, but there is PLENTY wrong with it, as can be seen by complaints in other nations of kids (and adults) going onto private property, and disregard for the places they enter besides. I mean, if people want to go to Hiroshima Peace Park to learn about what happened and the disasters of war, all the power to them. If they're going to stomp around the place where so many died to collect an imaginary figure, possibly disrupting those who are there to learn, then I think there is a legitimate concern for how the aforementioned good idea is executed. And lest we forget, it requires children and adults have a mobile device to play the game to begin with, which means buying one in many cases.

Loren Fykes: "Line has millions of users"

And doesn't require near hte processing power of software that runs realtime navigation systems and animation, as well as constant network access. Line is just simply graphics and bit text being transfered back and forth. There's a lot more to it, as servers aren't just one place or thing for the entire nation. If you said, "The server is down at work" it would not mean the entire nation is down, it would mean the server your workplace uses is. The servers that would run this game, as well as local servers for maps, etc. don't seem to be equipped to run the massive amounts of data smoothly. As another poster said tongue in cheek but to illustrate the problem, they are probably still running on Windows 95

Like I said, it's server issues here. It's not about tying up with McD's or other companies, though those are added benefits to both companies -- they simply can't work out the issues and so it's taking longer.
