2月28日 発売予定

価格 128GBモデル:99,800円

Yeah, I wouldn't call this a budget option in Japan.....

I am in my fifth year of using my iPhone 12, but I will change it next year. The price worked out to about ¥2,000/month. I will buy an iPhone 15. Don't always need the latest model.

wallace, I just swapped out my battery for the 12 pro and plan to use it for another 2-4 years. Works super quick now that my battery is at 100% from 73%. Longest phone I've used since my ol Xperia Arc

My iPhone 12 battery after 4 years is still 83%. I think a new battery is about ¥11,000. iPhones are good for 7 years at least.

I have a landline......lol.

I hate smart phones.

Still have a '6' that enables you to talk, listen, text, read, email, browse, play music, take snaps and see where you are on the map. Battery capacity is down to 72%, but it's enough for a day or two. Company gave me a 16Pro for work though.

SDCA - yes, those prices are still quite high compared to Androids.

Wallace, if you wait until next year, it will be difficult to find an iPhone 15.

I changed to iPhone 15 last week, they had a nice campaign. But already not too many left.

iPhone 15, 128 GB., discounted to 79,000 jpy, 2 years paying 212 yen/month, with the option to change it to another phone after 2 years, or pay the rest.

I am thinking the next iPhone I buy will be secondhand from Back Market.

I have been doing those programs for years but they have changed the terms and are not as good as before. You pay for four years or trade-in. Then you still pay for your current model and just get "points" for upgrading your phone. You end up with two monthly payments. I have ended that program.

Buy from Apple and get good trade-in prices.

¥115k for a budget phone, LOL not my budget...

I have a landline......lol.

must be for your budget GM. I saved ¥1000 per month going from fibre internet + phone to Rakuten mobile phone plan, and there's no difference in speed that I can notice, nor have I used up data.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I have an IP (internet phone) cheaper than the landline but it's only for emergency international calls and never use it. I think the cost is ¥500/month.

Shimon...nah, not the budget.

I am something of a tech. phobic luddite, and still hold concerns about information harvesting.

Dont like to leave a big footprint lol...except this forum....Mossad reading maybe ?

iPhone data can be encrypted and even Apple can't read it.

When users enable "Advanced Data Protection" on their iCloud, their iPhone data is encrypted end-to-end, meaning not even Apple can access or read the information without the user's passcode, effectively preventing them from seeing the data even if they wanted.

I went iPhone 4 - iPhone SE -iPhone SE again (2nd edition), but was thinking to get some Android replacement soon. iPhone is good but I don’t need a fancy camera, and I don’t feel a need for more AI integration. I don’t have time to learn how to use all the features that are built into these things.

So I was interested to read about this 16e model, but given I paid I think 70,000ish for my last SE it still seems like it’s gonna be too expensive.

So will probably buy an Android, and if I really don’t like it I guess a family member will be gifted it.

Wallace...I get the encryption thingy....but if law enforcement want your data they will issue a subpoena which you must comply or risk jail for contempt.

All data is accessible in those situations.

A shade under 100,000 yen is a cheap one?

No. Encrypted Apple data is available to no one except the owner. Not Apple or law enforcement.

Is that with au? I think that's the deal my in-laws just signed up to.

My iPhone XR is almost 6 years old, battery max is 76% but that's still mostly fine for how I use it. Tossing up between getting a new one or just replacing the battery.

Wallace...Courts "trump' any guarantees of data protection.

Dont comply...go to jail.

Your stuff may remain encrypted, but you are left worrying about the next shower and the crazy guy in the cell next to you.

Change gear...what features of these things can people not do without ?

And , yes, I am an old luddite.

Firstly, you live in Japan. The authorities require a reason and a warrant to gain access to a phone.

No one one has gone to jail.

Secondly, why would you think the authorities are even interested in you? Are you hiding something?

The upgrade program is no longer as good as it was. Change the model after two years and you continue to pay for the first model for another 24 months. You will receive points for the first model, maybe ¥30,000. Not as good as the previous one with a cash reduction on the second model. I did the program for more than 10 years but now I have stopped.

Wallace...thanks for the interest.

Not experienced in Japanese law...Aussie law more so.

What i have said about refusing subpoenas is accurate.

And yes, we all have secrets...cue evil laugh...ha ha ha ha.

Authorities when questioning somebody do a fishing expedition....seek stuff they can use.

Case in point...the NSW Nurses and the anti semiticism complaint.

Still no charges related to this laid , as far as I know.

But cops seized the persons laptop and phone and will dig for info.

Ditto people you know and contact....cops will want to know why you are speaking to X person.

And there ARE concerns by groups more tuned in than me about the use of data.

Data harvesting .

Is the encryption method fool proof...never was a thing that existed that was fool proof

GuruMick

you don't have the same fears about your PC which is more vulnerable than a smartphone.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

BorisM, no, I was an au user and their deals are not very good.

Ahamo (from Docomo). The iPhone 15, 128 Gb is 79,000 jpy (Apple price is 115,00 jpy), 2 years 212 yen/month, then either change, or 3,000 jpy/month. And no, you don't pay double. Or course, you can pay the 79,000 jpy upfront and it is yours.

The plan is 3,000 jpy/month. A good deal in my opinion.

Wallace..my PC ?

You mean my wifes PC ?

Told you homie...I am a paranoid luddite.

Advise all never to enter Australia or even cross borders with any digital device...

If you are that paranoid you back up your smartphone. Reset it to factory settings with all data wiped. You cross the border and when you get home or to the hotel you download your data again.

That's still 99,800 yen here in Japan. That's just way more than I want to spend on a smartphone. I got my handset for 5,000 yen through Rakuten Mobile on special and it's worked just fine for the last two years. Good enough for me.
