Good move by Apple.

Qualcomm is a pivotal supplier in the rollout of 5G, particularly in the U.S. That's because President Donald Trump's administration has blacklisted another key 5G supplier, Huawei, as part of its trade war with China.

Huawei was never going to sell their 5G chips outside China nor license other foundries! They have said this publicly, I suspect because there's a lot of IP that would be challenged without the protection of the CCP.

This buy is purely for Apple to be not so reliant on Qualcomm, ie so Apple can make its own 5G modem chips as well.
