@theResident: power to you.

@gogogo: Happier to spend 500 on something I want than 150 on something I don't!

@gogogo - Theres that curious 6 month thing again! Apple rocks!!

@theResident: Rather spend 150 dollars and be outdated in 6 months than 500.

On another note, Windows 7 DOES have the blue screen of death.. Ive seen it several times! so what's to say if Windows 8 doesn't have it?

@lostrune2

I guess you don't get sarcasm from the past versions :P

Besides, USB and Firewire, iPad needs a standard mini-HDMI video output, instead of having to buy that $40 Apple adapter. Even the other smartphones, tablets, and some MacBooks already have it. There's no reason why Apple can't put it on the iPad, except as a money-grab for that adapter.

There is a cheap program for converting movies for the iPad.

Or Handbrake, free, works for Macs and PCs. If the movie is already in MP4 format, ya may not even need to convert it, just add to library.

Windows 8 new features: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKy9fV_zX_o

If ya have to go all the way back to Win98 to prove your point, you're only weakening your position. Come back to us in the 21st-and-2/10th Century.

That's because their "own" tablet computers are a cheap rip-off of Apple's.

Some are actually more expensive than the iPad, believe it or not. But iPad is still the gold standard. More competition is always good though - like what happened when good computers used to cost in the thousands $$ but now down to a good few hundreds $$.

@gogogo: you know what? If its outdated in six months, I'll just buy the next one. Your $150 Android tablet will be just as outdated in six months. I don't want to have to 'convert' movies to play on an android device or the ipad, I like the fact that itunes is just there. By the way, I have an Android phone, so I am NOT being anti-Android.

iPad is pretty slick device. One day I noticed that my Mom here like to read Yahoo Japan on her iPhone. It was an easy guess that an iPad would suit her perfectly. The family pitched in and we got her an iPad. She absolutely loves it. She's not a heavy user and even now still doesn't fully understand all it's functions but with each day she's enjoying the experience.

It's also sits very well on the coffee table. When family to visit and the kids want to play or watch videos on the sofa it's perfect. That quick access to the Internet is unbeatable. Especially using that Smart Cover.

Apple makes good products period.

@hoserfella: Why do you care so much that I don't care? I don't care what people buy, I was just making an observation.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

gogogo - I don't see people lined up anywhere, nor do I see any evidence that iPads have become terribly useless after 6 months on the market.

You criticize people happily buying Apple products as slaves to a particular brand, but in the same breath you are all but advertising for Andriod products. Again, why could you possibly care what someone else is doing with their money? Why does Apple wound you so?

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

@hoserfella: Defend whatever you bought it is fine, people need to take a look in the mirror and see what they are doing, they line up for a piece of hardware that is outdated in 6 months?

@theResident: If you need a tablet buy a 150 dollar Android 4 tablet, it just works great as well.

Sure but it still doesn't have a back button.

"Rival PC and mobile phone makers have been unable to mirror Apple's success with their own tablet computers"

That's because their "own" tablet computers are a cheap rip-off of Apple's.

@gogogo: Have you actually used one? I am NOT an Apple Lover, but I have the ipad2 and it just 'works'. The newspaper applications just 'work' perfectly, I have my music with me all the time. The ability to rent movies (if you have a US account) for watching on a long flight is quite excellent. I will admit I bought one to jump on the bandwagon, and I will quite happily buy version 3 if it offers better specs. I use it with DoCoMo LTE mifi, so it really it like having broadband on the move. I do not have it to 'look smart' and it certainly does not make my 'life complete' but I will never regret buying it. No-one else offers a tablet so complete and satisfying to use.

I have the 2, and would like to see a USB port. That is the only thing needed. Other than that, the system is fantastic, and I have only turned mine off a few times since last summer after running the battery down to keep it strong.****

gogogo - what if you're in the market for an iPad because u actually think its better than buying a desktop and it is wildly successful all around the world and has garnered nothing but accolades from customers and critics alike?

Seriously, why would would you get so worked up over what computer brand someone else is buying?

5 ( +6 / -1 )

meh, if you need an apple to make your life complete or "look smart" then go ahead, I feel sorry for you.

-9 ( +3 / -12 )

Is this just a spec upgrade? Not sure else they could do to the iPad to make it much better than what it currently is. Apart from sort of pointless stuff like an in-built projector.

I'm off to the Apple store to start queuing right now.
