If real apple products weren't so expensive, there would be no need for people to buy fakes.
Dan Lewis
Agreed that Apple products are expensive, but cheap (quality-wise) products posing as Apple products makes Apple liable without any income. Is that fair?
Apple isn't going after cables that support their products in general - only those that claim to be made by Apple.
Strangerland
I don't think it would make them legally responsible - it's not a product they released or endorsed. But, it could cause image problems for them, if people believe that real products caused the problems that arise.

Maybe if Apple's cables and chargers weren't defective, there would be a less of a need to buy them. Their cables are prone to fray and they charge high prices to replace them. There should have been a recall on them.
Lost-in-Nagoya
This is equal to zero, in every aspect. People who buy Apple buy on their will, and are not forced to buy them. So, if I buy an iPhone, I also have to be prepared to buy accessories that match both the quality and price.

sorry but many Apple products from Apple are fake as well. Cheap wiring in MBP chargers and they don't last. All the special shi shi fu fu features don't matter. Never had to replace a power adapter on a PC. Only Mac. Apple has no intention of selling quality chargers
Go take a look at the Apple Store and the comments on chargers. Corporate greed outweighs product reliability. Apple has been sued before, (Touch Disease), I'm surprised it hasn't been for chargers. Nice platform but it's really just an EEE PC with a special OS.
Strangerland
How is an apple product sold by apple, a fake apple product?
Haaa Nemui
I've found it exactly the opposite. Generally the people who have issues with cables... whichever format... seem to pull their cable from the socket by the cable and not by the plug itself. Never had an issue with an Apple charger, and the only time I've had an issue with a cable was one connected to a pc adapter that broke after somebody tripped over it. People just don't like to be careful.

heard many stories about fake items selling in amazon. rather pay a bit more than taking a chance.

@Strangeland
when it doesn't do what it's supposed to do, at a level of quality slightly beyond that of Payless shoes
ChaosWyvern
Wouldn't that make it a crappy apple product rather than a fake one?

Fake apple products on amazon ????? No way!!!
Strangerland
Maybe you don't know what 'fake' means. Because that doesn't fit the definition.

@ChaosWyvern
yes indeed, but since it's been going on for years I'd say it's fake because if it was any other company they'd be recalled or they'd be shunned. It's incredible how long Apple has ignored its users. There are not what they are supposed to be.
I'm not alone, and as the quality keep sliding the acceptability curve slowly moves to more affected people than unaffected. True, I'm just n=1 statistically, but as more people complain those unaffected become less of the majority. it's a running joke you'll have to replace your charger.
@Haaa Nemui I took care of my charger like it was a shut-in baby with osteoporosis. It's now with duct tape at both ends. Works but sometime not. Wires are just fraying on their own over time. Cheap materials, not quality. It's 7 months old. Again, n=1, but many more are experiencing problems and Apple is not solving them. I'm a trained diploma'd computer technician. It's cheap wire and bad soldering. At least when it goes I'll be able to rewire it myself, with better materials. More than I can say for those spending annually on them.

I know everybody has their stories, but here's mine: I used to have a cheap Wal-Mart charger for my iPhone (because my original one no longer worked). After a certain ios update, my Wal-Mart cable no longer worked (my iPhone told me the walmart cable was not an "authorized" accessory), forcing me to buy another expensive Apple charger which is probably made at roughly the same cost as the cheap Wal-Mart one... how's that for fair?
Haaa Nemui
@sf2k - sorry but seven months seems unbelievable... but that's not to say I think you're lying. Still... I've been using Apple products for a little over 10 years and haven't once had to replace a cable for any reason whatsoever. Also it wasn't so long ago that Apple issued a recall for a power adapter, so yep, people have had issues I know, but that alone refutes your argument that they don't care about their customers.
If it wasn't a MFi cable... hopefully you've learned your lesson.

@Haaa Nemui
I'm glad you've had better success. I figure I just ran into a bad lot number
Haaa Nemui
It's not me down voting you btw
sf2k
Yeah I don't worry about that. People either connect or some just down vote everything. Sharing an experience of both negative and positive results doesn't fit the system

Apple cables: from consumer durables to dodgy consumables.
Poor show, TC.
