Well, this is another shocker! Yeah, Apple threw out the bone that they were going to leave the Green-pact to test the waters. Translation: they found a way to make some part(s) cheaper, but at the cost of the environment in some backwater Chinese locale. Now what about that sticky human issue? Lest we forget.

He said Apple “led the industry in removing harmful toxins such as brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC)” and is “the only company to comprehensively report greenhouse gas emissions for every product we make.”

So they lead the industry in removing easy to recycle chemicals and instead use who knows what type of glue that stops you from EVER replacing your battery, thus making the machine obsolete in three years instead of the industry standard 7 years. More waste because you reduce a small portion of waste? That's about as green as purple is.

You can have the batteries replaced in any of the mac's which have been sold, and also the ones currently on sale. Apple will replace the battery in iPads, MacBook Airs and the new range of MacBook Pro's.

But "YOU" cannot replace the batteries. This is why they are able to go back to EPEAT on a technicality, the batteries are not user replaceable, but are removable (when you trash your computer)
