Docomo stopped selling the latest and newest Blackberry phones. Shame on them. Such a good company. They are dedicated to staying on with the traditional flip top Japanese cell phones which are virtually useless to non-Japanese. I paid JPY50,000 for mine and hardly use it, even though it's in English, every site you access is in Japanese. Useless! I want either a blackberry or iPhone but will stick to Docomo. Their service is outstanding, just poor choice of phones.

Tom, I'm not sure where you are getting your information. Docomo has the BEST selection of phones in Japan, especially smartphones. Seriously, take a look:

So many Android phones! Bilingual, stylish. I can't believe that you can't find a non flip-phone that you like with all of those models. And they offer several BlackBerry models, too.

Why? Do people like to be connected to the internet 24/7? I'm going out to chop some wood.

JapanGal, are you sure about these give aways?? If it is true then I need to go ASAP to my local Softbank office to get my Iphone 4 exchanged for this newer I phone 4S, right

No this is only for 3g and 3gs owners

There's a reason iPhone is shattering all the records -- because it's the best

poppycock, both systems have their bad and good sides, these are just words from someone who never tried (at least more than a day) both systems. An iphone is in no way superior to an android and vice versa. An iphone is like a mac computer, foolproof, an Android gives you more options and is therefore more of a handfull, but ultimately more rewarding for those who like to keep things in their own hands. An iphone has a gorgeous design, but since they didnt use gorilla glass its far easier to break than a "plastic" samsung for example. Speedwise theyre equal, and where apple gives you siri, android gives you java. the iphone sports a great resolution, android gives you bigger screens. I have to admit though that its a great relief for me to just copy and paste movies in my android without the hassle of converting them to 3gp or mp4, if you dont watch movies then this is of no concern. Stop this childish behaviour of elevating the product you choose to use, everybodys head is different shaped and therefore everybody needs a different hat.

Docomo does indeed have smartphones, although they are stupid to have rejected iPhone in the beginning. Where he's wrong is when he says Docomo has 'the BEST selection', because they don't. iPhone is bar none the best. Android is a decent imitation as far as imitations go, but still lacking overall.

I own both iPhone and an older Android model and I GREATLY prefer the Android phone. The iPhone's contract is about up so I will ditch it and Softbank for a Docomo Android model. I don't like the lack of flexibility, I don't like having to deal with crappy iTunes for everything. I don't like arbitrary bandwidth restrictions not imposed by my carrier (can't download over 10Mb over 3g! Ridiculous.)

Why would I get two thumbs down for stating a fact? I registered to trade in my 3Gs yesterday for a FREE 4gs.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

JapanGal, I didn't give you any thumbs down, but the 8GB and 16GB versions of the iPhone 4S are not quite exactly free. I'm not talking about SB covering their cost of those handsets out of the money we pay out in the 2-year data plan contract fees--of course they do. I'm talking about if you exit the data plan early, you have to pay a cancellation fee that is the sum of all remaining monthly handset fee amounts that would've been "waived" had you continued until the end of the 2-year data plan. I reckon it's about 1900 per month for the entire 2 years. So if you were to leave the 2-year contract after only 1 year, then you have to pay SB a 22,800 "penalty". This is "free" like the free drinks in Vegas for people who are actually gambling.

That being said, I ordered my free 4S over the weekend and can't wait to get it! I do like free. See you on iMessage!

4 million and one :D They surely didn't give it away. I paid softbank a nice sum for it.

Marketing at its best and worst, it's only selling twice as fast because Apple released it on the same day in every country, unlike previous launches, count the units sold in the first month for a real idea on how it did.

Well, there maybe a short of supply of iPhones and iPad: iPhone sales maybe nailed to 4 millions only

-- "China orders Apple supplier plant closure over environmental concerns"

(You Can GOOGLE this topic for further reading)

===========================

CHINESE AUTHORITIES have ordered an Apple supplier to close part of its plant in Suzhou after residents living nearby raised significant environmental concerns.--

The Chinese government, widely criticized for its poor policies on environmental issues, has taken a tough stance with the Taiwanese company Catcher Technology, which makes metal casings for notebook computers including Apple's Macbook Air and Macbook Pro.

There may have been far more sells if Docomo would have joined in. Docomo, are you reading this?

I loved my iphone, and now I love my android... have you ever noticed that softbank actually positive discriminates the iphone...a 4200 packet yarihodai for the iphone versus 5600 for any other brand. Weird heh it's like apple subsidies the iphone...

, hardheaded

The first thing I did Monday morning was go out and buy sisx share of Apple. Remember, Apple makes more than telephone and we have an economy to rebuild.

Thanks JapanGal and DutchDuck, I just went today to my local Apple, oops Softbank office and it was true, ONLY 3 GS and those really old I phones can be traded in for free, but since I have a 4, they said sorry, so I asked them if they knew how much AU and KDDI would charge me for changing my Iphone at Softbank on over to AU?? The young lady behind the desk almost fell off her chair!

And they have given a lot of them away too here in Japan with the campaign at SoftBank.

i hate iphones, ipods, ianything and tough screens boo!

As I walked past an Apple store the other day, I stopped to ask someone in line why it was so urgent to get the new phone the day it was released. All he could say was, "Baa. Baaaaa. BAAAAA."

Tom/Patawan: "Tom, I'm not sure where you are getting your information. Docomo has the BEST selection of phones in Japan, especially smartphones. Seriously, take a look:"

Tom, Patawan is correct in that you have some false information. There's a reason iPhone is shattering all the records -- because it's the best. I can understand how Docomo fans must feel a bit upset at being given the short end of the stick, though.
