Apple is comparing it's phone OS to game consoles?
Very selective, do IOS tablets and phones only play games? No, so why compare to game consoles.
If Apple is going to use another platforms to do comparisons then use more appropriate platforms and devices, like Android OS tablets, phones, Windows OS tablets and PCs.
This would be like a retail car maker charging 3 times the cost and blocking the installation of parts not made by them.
Then when they are told their parts are to expensive and the blocking of using parts from other makers is unfair, the car maker replies "well look at formula 1 car makers they control all their parts and prices".

Apple would do anything in their power to avoid being compared with Android. Hate it or not, Google are much fairer towards both users and developers than Apple ever was or will be.

Let's pretend Sony Electronics has the monopoly on TV's and They are still a big player in content production with Sony Entertainment. Both Sony Electronics and Sony Entertainment are owned by Sony Holdings but, even today, the relationship between Entertainment and Electronics is not so close that either one dictates completely dictates how content is accessed by end users. Even with smart TVs, there are end user work arounds that do not violate terms of service or warranties. In the end Sony dominates the medium and the content, but not the delivery method.
Epic is trying to prove Apple is monopolizing the delivery system and Apple trying to prove there is no monopoly as Google's Android system provides an alternative. I don't see Epic winning but I do see this as an expensive proxy battle between Apple and China as Apple pulls production out of the region and Tencent providing legal funds to appease government actors.

Apple does not have a leg to stand on here. They will loose and loose big time.
The sad thing is, Apple needs to decide whether they can stay in that Market, or pull out. And if they stay, how to do so.
Technologically wise, they could virtualize all Apple Store Apps into a SAAS model, though then they'd need to focus on the internet hardware expense... and leaping out of the box here... buying Elon Musks StarLink program would sort of help there... I wouldn't be surprised if Apple bought it out and made them an Apple Only network.

But most people don't use iPhones or Macs
I think most people don't mind taking some risks in exchange for more freedom of options to choose from. That's why people like to window-shop to different places
