Let it die. Keep TikTok out of the US market.

Clearly Trump just wants it gone, he really doesn't care.

As long as ByteDance has an equity stake of any kind the deal is dead on arrival.

I agree. It's a good precedent to set that the president is able to quash companies that enable others to speak poorly of him.
I look forward to Biden, and then Hillary as the next president, using this precedent to silence right-wing American companies.

If that were the case, the big 3; YouTube, Facebook, and twitter would be toast. It seems like half the content on those platforms is anti-Trump stuff.

So why did the military ban TikTok before the White House even made any mention of it?

Once law makers get a whiff of this deal its going to fall through.

The US military has heartburn with all forms of social media to greater or lesser degrees. Tiktok is particularly bad because the PLA and Chinese civil security have direct access to everything everyone does or says on any Chinese social media or cell phone provider. But even Linkin is a risk. Stuff people post on their resumes can be an intelligence gold mine for an adversary. Photos posted on social media too often have gps coordinates and dates imbedded in the metadata. That is intel gold depending on what the picture is of, like a group photo of your unit deployed somewhere. The post may say nothing about where they are but it is all there in the metadata. Thieves love it when you post vacation photos followed by a line such as "our next stop after Thailand is a beach on the Red Sea". Well, well, they won't be home for a while! Look at some earlier posts of home for the gps coordinates in the metadata and now you know where they live. People are incredibly naive about the dangers inherent in social media.
