A nice starting point would be to construct solar farms to power Australia to eliminate our coal usage, then to export additional capacity as it comes online to other nations via under sea cables.

This is so inspiring amid so many war scaremongers insisting to adopt fossil fuels or nuclear power as opposed to green energy.
Matt Hartwell
If you were a war scaremonnger, wouldnt you be keen on renewables, particularly solar? Distributed electricity grids are more secure than centralised energy grids. I think the argument for fossil fuel is about maintaining stability and nuclear is about unique case uses. At least from what Ive read. Even Sweden is going nuclear now.

There is more to it. Most renewable energy sources do not produce power all the time and their power output is dependent upon nature. Imagine a miserable hot, humid night with not even a hint of a breeze. There will be no power coming from solar or wind power but you will want to have the lights on, run an air conditioner or at the very least some fans. Trains and light rail still need electricity to run. Hospitals, businesses and public services will need to operate regardless of the output from renewable energy sources. Batteries in their current state can maybe handle the load for four hours. Solar power would not be too useful through the 24 hour a day darkness of an Arctic winter. This means there have to be other sources of energy that can operate when nature isn't providing sunlight or wind to power renewable energy sources.

A question I have with this idea is how this notional power connection will be threaded through Indonesian waters to run from Oz to Singapore and is Indonesian cooperation required?
