Fake news, big business, foreign govts and their bots are the biggest issues facing t'internet today.

It needs to be tackled.

Watch as my comment is downvoted into oblivion by the legion of left wingers, no doubt I'll soon be labeled a Trump fanatic as well..Heaven forbid people actually took a neutral, centrist point of view for once.

You're the one who brought up the left-vs.-right thing. Aside from that, fake news and hate speech are not subject to a left-vs.-right debate. Hate speech, as far as Germany is concerned, has apparently been defined by the government and courts. And fake news isn't a partisan issue - if it can't be proven with verifiable facts, it's fake news, no matter who posted it.

Mr. Berners-Lee makes good points about commerce and privacy, but just saying these things should be handled better doesn't really amount to much. Big Money will continue to control the biggest social media platforms, as long as it gives them the opportunity to sell to us and to further enrich themselves.

Do people realize that this means left leaning media, search engines and SNS will need to ensure they reflect not only left leaning but also center and right leaning content?

These kinds of statements tend to be made and supported only when they are in favor of one's own political leanings.

That's why he's calling for them to be regulated - net neutrality

The reason I brought up left-vs-right wing is because the largest tech and news companies are these days so completely left wing they stop at nothing to ensure that their view is heard by all.

Google's recent handling of an employee who did not follow the internal ultra-equality line was a good example of how they are unable to deal with the wide spectrum of political opinions that exists outside their core supporters.

Another example of left leaning bias is how Apple's products all default to very left-leaning news sources when you first turn them on - the default primary news sources on new iPhones are all American left wing newspapers.

Whoever is doing the fact checking, they have a responsibility to make sure information from both sides of the political spectrum is making it into our information streams so that reasonable people can make an informed choice. At this point the entire public is being biased in one direction.

How would you feel if the only news you got on this site was the kind of tripe published from Japanese ultra right wing newspapers? Moritomo document fraud instead changed to Moritomo document clarification - obviously a lie but this is what's happening with big data in the US.

Sounds an awful lot like shutting down freedom of speech and introducing thought police. It seems that the UK has been doing a good job of doing this lately. I was kind of hoping this article was going to include leashing AI, weaponized AI robots for the military use, and limitations on data collection/sharing.
