Akamai pushed a software update to its DNS server. A software configuration update triggered a bug in their DNS server Edge DNS, bringing Oracle down with it. The problem is fixed.

I wonder if Akamai did an internal review after the Fastly outage recently. Every CDN out there should be doing some serious stress testing of their deployment strategies to try to expose any bugs they can fix before more outages like this happen.
