If the problem was thinking this was a leap year, then the problem is now gone. No recall necessary. I don't own any of the PS consoles, but even I wouldn't use this glitch as a reason why I don't.

Here's what you folks don't get. It's not because of the clock that the PS3 games and content stopped working. It's because of the copy protection. They need to connect to a valid Sony server in order to work.

To put it another way, if you enjoy hooking up your old Nintendo every now and then and playing a classic game don't count on it being able to do that with the PS3. If in 10 years Sony decides to discontinue server support for the PS3 then a whole slew of games and content that you paid for will stop working.

The 10 plagues?

Indeed, it was the ApocalyPS3.

This kind of thing is why I don't buy games online. Nont only can you not sell them on when you're done with them, but you're at the mercy of the network wen things like this happen. Imagine this glitch occurring in 2018 or 2030 when only fans of older games are still playing them, and imagine it locking you out of your purchased content forever. Sony wouldn't have cared.

i like ps3 call of duty modern warfare series. it s so addictive. I don't think it s over priced because of the blue ray and online capabilities. can't wait for the next call of duty game to come out!!

Hubby owns PSP, Wii and the PS3 which was his birthday present last year. stevecpfc is right. A little bit overpriced for my taste. I'm still a Diablo and Age of Empires loyal fan. :)

Relax peeps. I just checked it out and apparently the problem is already fixed. No need to do anything, just play.

At the worst its an problem in an EPROM on the motherboard that can still be fixed with a system update. I doubt this has ANYTHING to do with the internet.

Yeah, I am sure it's an EPROM issue. If it were a prototype, that is.

It has everything to do with the internet - many games require trophy sync with the PSN. The game tries to sync, fails due to bad date and corrupts the save file. I read about it last night.

Sega gave up after underhand advertising from Sony claiming the PS2 as better than the DC handsdown, when games like DOA2 and Rez prove that is false.

The PS3 is not for gamers, none of the recent consoles are. Overpriced games too reliant on graphics with poorly made consoles (except Wii).

Want better games get a Dingoo A320 or Gemei for less than 10,000 Yen.

I love my ps3 and xbox 360. I don't think they are over priced in the LEAST. I get so much use out of my consoles it isn't even funny. They are probably the best investments I have made in the past 5 years in terms of entertainment value. On the weekends on Xbox live I stay in touch with my friends in the USA and get to play games at the same time. My PS3 has an amazing blu-ray player in it, one of the best on the market. What is overpriced about that? I am not crazy about all the bugs, glitches, and major hardware problem with the 360, but the more advanced technology is, it is inevitable. Why in the world would they have a HARDWARE recall for a SOFTWARE problem. At the worst its an problem in an EPROM on the motherboard that can still be fixed with a system update. I doubt this has ANYTHING to do with the internet. This problem definitely seems to originate in the system info, something that can still be updated with the proper system update. They simply have to find the code that is causing this problem.

They lose money on the consoles = one of the reasons Sega left that part of the business. =Big pressure to make these systems cheaper all the time.

Same for any hardware (iPod, iPhone etc)

Me mate who as working for them until last year told me ho they keep trying everything to cut production costs.

All companies do this. It's how they make money. Lower costs = more profits.

I think this illustrates the big problem with internet connected consoles. It seems this bug is connected to some internet verification for some games.

No recalls?

PS3, XBOX, Wii are overpriced kiddy toys. Real gamers ill favour Dreamacst and older or maybe getting real arcade consoles.

Sony cuts corners big time. Me mate who as working for them until last year told me ho they keep trying everything to cut production costs. This is the same company that produced a cheap PS1 with such a good audio system, many use it now for cd listening.
