Zhang says: "The truth is, I lack some of the skills that make an ideal manager." Well, I think the real truth is he is scared to death after seeing the CCP force Jack Ma out of his own company. Colin Huang Zheng, the 41-year-old founder of e-commerce company Pinduoduo announced in March that he would step down as chairman. He claims he wants to pursue a childhood dream to be a scientist or researcher. Hmmm. Let's wait and see what he is doing a year from now, and five years from now. I have said here before that Xi Jinping and the CCP attacking their wealthiest citizen, someone who has a compelling personal history of working hard and overcoming obstacles to success at every juncture in his life, would act to deter others from taking entrepreneurial risks in China. Why build a great company if the CCP can take it from you? Looks like some who have made it now are worried about losing it all and looking for a way out.

By demanding obedience rather than let companies explore possibilities, the CCP is shooting itself in its own foot. TikTok had the potential to be another Facebook. Now it is likely simply ephemeral.

Take the money and run from this dumpster fire

There is a career and new opportunities for this fellow in the West. Welcome!

The CCP seized ByteDance and its assets since he was nothing more than an avatar for the shadowy CCP members who invested and created the whole thing in the first place.

If the west, especially the US, is smart they will welcome these people with open arms. Aside from their energy and creativity, they bring insights into how China works and the people who run it that American policymakers, defense and foreign policy analysts need to understand. My unhappy suspicion however is that the CCP will fabricate reasons to detain them so they cannot leave.

I'd like to leave my post to read and daydream. But I am not a billionaire.

Good luck, Mr. Zhang!

That is what he says in public. If he said what he is really thinking he would end up like Jack Ma, which is his real fear.
