Capcom ships first million units of 'Super Street Fighter IV'

Capcom Co on Friday announced that the initial shipment of the latest iteration in the 'Street Fighter' series, "Super Street Fighter IV," has reached one million units worldwide.

In addition to new characters, "Super Street Fighter IV" features the Replay Channel, allowing players to upload and view replays of previous fights. The online modes have been designed to allow for easier communication between players worldwide. Together with new alternate costumes for all characters available as downloadable content, these new and exciting features, at an incredible price, enabled Capcom to ship over one million units of the game.

Since the release of the original "Street Fighter IV," with events such as national tournaments, Capcom has continued with its promotional push, which includes tie-ins that branch out into other industries, including an arcade version of "Super Street Fighter IV."

"Street Fighter" was first released in the arcades in 1987. This was followed up in 1991 with the smash hit "Street Fighter II", and as of March 31, the entire series has shipped over 28 million units on home consoles worldwide. The innovative battle system found in the Street Fighter games helped to establish the fighting game genre.

Just looked at the video on Youtube...

Same game play as Street Fighter II on the SNES.

I can imagine feeling very empty inside after playing this...

They really can't do much to improve on Street Fighter II from nearly 20 years ago. No doubt they think being able to change Chung Li's panty colour will attract a huge number of pervs, or other such simple details, but seriously the game is over. Until Capcom comes out with a Street-fighter where you make your OWN character and fight and develop him/her online through network gaming they aren't going to sell that much. THEN, if your character develops well and can face off with old school Ryu or Gile (sp?), it would be cool.

I predict four more versions of 'Street Fighter IV' to follow soon. The question is: what name will they come up with next?...Ultra Turbo HD Street Fighter IV....

@rubytree: perhaps CHAMPION ED. or TURBO

I am still reeling with disappointment from the first SF4...

Guess I will be the only positive on this. Great gameplay, very much improved from SFII or any previous version of it.

@rubytree and jj1980-not gonna happen. this is the only and last installment of four, unless there is DLC.

@smithinjapan-you must not have played anything after II. Also, they have games just like what you have described, they just do not have the draw that SF has. (unless you are a hardcore VF, SC or Tekken fan)

@Weasel-and what company does not? If it makes money, why not sell it? You as a consumer do not have to buy it.

@Venetian-wow, how old is your monitor? If it looked that bad, I think you need to go to a neighbor's house or something to see some good screen shots.
