“It’s not just about (ElliQ's) utility. It’s about friendship, companionship and empathy,” Skuler said. “That just did not exist anywhere.”

The recent movie "Her" is here and hopefully the last stage of the movie can be expanded upon and GLLM can progress to AGI and be of more benefit to the needy contingent of humanity.

No... no it does not. Old people are not dumb. They can comprehend that it's not alive.

Lots of people are lonely, because they have toxic personalities, that people do not want to be around them

Cool tech, but... sad.

This whole story is pathetic. Loneliness is the mental construct, a choice. And it's diametrically the opposite of being alone. Pity the people who have to rely on a robot to get a life.

My question is, does it have the memory to build a real personality? My understanding is they shortened the memory on these things to prevent them from going off the rails...

My question is, does it have the memory to build a real personality?

These devices, like holograms and robot pets and even sex robots all have limited vocabularies and limited memory. They will never 'develop' personalities. They are machines.

Well that is what I thought but a personality is only what you can deceive a human into perceiving.

This is really awesome for the people who get enjoyment and fulfillment from it. I personally use PI AI from time to time to talk about stuff I don't want to talk to my friends or family about. AI is not judgmental; it has more empathy than a lot of humans. It is only going to get more interesting from here. Will everyone use it? Probably not, since even now there are people who don't use smart phones, but we are in exciting times, and I look forward to seeing where this technology goes.
