Soon it will be number 1, let's give it a few more years..

It's a trap.

China's economy, the world's second-largest, has been hammered in recent months by a series of major Covid lockdowns, and the government has rolled out a series of measures to resuscitate it.

Going back on the crackdown of games that has lasted for months may help their economy, but the same as the covid lockdowns there is no guarantee the same situation will not be repeated the next time the CCP feels tightening control of the population is more important.

They capped the amount of gaming time for children with the stated aim of fighting addiction and froze approvals for new games for nine months, hammering the bottom lines of many companies including sector titan Tencent.

Maybe not such a bad measure.

but the same as the covid lockdowns there is no guarantee the same situation will not be repeated the next time the CCP feels tightening control of the population is more important.

There are numerous ways the CCP can tighten control on its population. Have a 9pm curfew for example.

It would be incredible though if medical experts were concluding that the purpose of the lockdowns is to tighten control of the population---what does that blank notion even mean? If it means to control the spread of Covid infections, then you would be correct, even as a non-medical professional.

Many countries, states in the US, attempted to mimic China's approach--from Italy and Spain to Germany and California.

Some experts believe the lockdowns work, as they kept infection rates the lowest in the world.

Much more serious is to restrict their access to medical services, ration food and services, censoring any and all expressions of discontent about this control to put some examples. This is just another way the CCP is choosing to do it, except that now the economic deceleration made it less than desirable to continue doing it... for now.

It would be incredible though if medical experts were concluding that the purpose of the lockdowns is to tighten control of the population-

Why would medical experts specifically do it? it is a well known reality described and characterized in detail by proper analysts

Fortunately human rights are much stronger in those other countries, so the unlimited control the CCP has over the population can't be so easily achieved. One of the many benefits of having a well developed society is that it makes much more difficult for these abuses to happen.
