TSMC is six months into construction of a US$ 12 billion 5nm plant in Arizona - the first 5nm fab in the US.

The new Japan fab will make 22-28nm grade chips.

Since Japan is investing half, that's a great deal for TSMC. TSMC sold bonds to finance the AZ plant, which is very unique - it is a clone of their Taiwan advanced fab facility.

When the jgov spends billions to bribe TSMC to manufacture 22nm chips in Japan instead of supporting local manufacturers who can produce upto 14nm chips, you know the jgov are being desperate to stay relevant in the supply chain industry.
