I love the idea of safer driving, but we are not yet to the point where the machine can drive us safely.
Every time I read this sort of thing, it makes me wonder when the machines will start designing and manufacturing themselves, at which point, what will they decide to do with us?

Obvious consequences of the technology being used by people with impaired intellectual abilities, since apparently it is very easy to sidestep the safety measures it will probably take a few more accidents (and Tesla getting a share of the respon$ibility for them) to make it actually difficult for people to kill themselves and others this way.

The machines are not sentient - the complexity of that is beyond the ken of any artifice - and hence cannot design & manufacture themselves. No matter the queer techno-fabulist dreams of Elon Musk.
Self-driving automobiles. Why? So Justin Bieber can have a play toy? For context - look at the typical malfunctions of PCs and the like.
All in all another bit of human stupidity and arrogance.
Teslas. Machines with a host of failures & insufficient infrastructure.

With today's technology that may be true but to paraphrase Arthur C. Clarke that may not always be the case.
