It sound interesting but the fundamental problem, as I see it, is that the only people who will be able to use this service are American homeowners with large properties in suburbs... precisely the same people who can easily drive to the local mega shopping mall and be back home in about 30 minutes.

Who wants to see and hear thousands of low flying drones delivering packages? The noise pollution will be unbearable. No thank you Amazon!

This is crazy. Skies full of drones crashing into each other and falling on people, highways and homes. If you look at the number packages that are delivered by UPS, FedEx, DHL etc. every day at all hours of the day, why do we need drones. If you live in a major metropolitan area like NYC, drones are useless. If you live in Boise Idaho is there going to be a Amazon warehouse staffed with drone operators (yeah who is going to drive those drones) and someone hooking up your package. What if the drone sets down and hits a power line or your pet bunny rabbit. Too many what if's.The bozo's at Amazon who cooked up this marketing gimmick need their medical marijuana cards revoked. LOL

I hope it doesn’t take down a big commercial aircraft.

I'd imagine this unlikely as manned aircraft will fly much higher? (Regulations)

But yeah, does the world really need this? A drone, safety and noise concerns aside, can only carry so much bulk / weight.

Surely carrying several packages by truck at the same time, all going to addresses nearby each other, or on the way, is much more sensible.

The noise pollution will be unbearable. No thank you Amazon! no more noisy as thosuands of delivery trucks driving down suburban streets, the tech is coming , itll be cleaner than cars, cheaper to delivery items, and the time fuel saved by not having to go to the local shopping center would be very convenient especially for busy working people. electric driven drones/vehicles produce much less CO2 than delivery trucks ever will. end of the day the price will dictate whether it becomes popular or not. A delivery drone would use probably $1 of electricity compared to the equivalent cost of a diesel truck and driver.

This is technology gone too far, I am very much against it. It sounds like a series of accidents waiting to happen, by law of average some of them are sure to crash. I'm sure it would also only be a matter of time before a way was found by certain groups to use them in a "terrorist" capacity.

Bad idea on so many levels.

Unless there's a warehouse in every neighbourhood, a single drone will have to be flying constantly and long distances.

And they'd have to be everywhere.

How are they going to deliver stuff to me if they can't land? Swoop in above the verandah, drop cargo and hope for the best? I'd upload those impressive acrobatics to YouTube, assuming I was happy having a parcel dropped a few feet onto a dirty and possibly wet balcony.

I'm sure some people would have fun screwing with them, just because they can. Great, just send out a bigger drone to pick a downed drone up... and see that one forced to crash too. ("See" only if there's a camera attached and it's pointing the right way, plus some douche hasn't thrown a cover over it)

This advancement of technology will be indispensable for the narcotics rings among pretty much every country.

many of the commercial type drones now available can easily lift 10kg, considering most small packages come under 2kg, drones can easily deliver most smaller item. light rain is now problem as most items will be delivered in small plastic containers.

It sounds manageable with just one company doing it, but if every company offered the service it's hard to see how there can be that many flying packages at the same time without seeing them constantly overhead.
