NTT Docomo on Tuesday announced its 2013 spring lineup of 12 models that will launch in sequence beginning on Friday. The lineup includes 11 smartphones and tablets, plus one mobile Wi-Fi router. For maximized ease of use, the models feature upgraded versions of numerous popular functions introduced in the 2012 winter lineup.

Some of the new and prominent features of the lineup include:

  • First Docomo smartphones capable of full-HD for superb high-definition video. Compatible with Docomo's Xi LTE service for maximum downlink of 112.5 Mbps (some areas), the fastest LTE connection in Japan.

  • A large selection of models featuring quad-core CPUs for increased enjoyment of mobile games and videos.

  • Many models running on Android 4.1.

  • Large-capacity batteries (2,000mAh or more) for power-thirsty users.

  • Smartphone model with special safety and security features for preteens.

Docomo also announced "docomo Smart Home," an all-new initiative for sharing videos, music and other content between smartphones and home electronics, realizing a convenient new way to enjoy high-definition digital content both at home and on the move.

As part of this initiative, the new spring lineup offers the "dtab," a Wi-Fi-dedicated tablet with special features for Docomo services such as the dmarket portal, and the "SmartTV dstick," a small flash drive-like HDMI device for enjoying movies and animation from dmarket, etc. on large-screen televisions.

In addition, new functions have been added to the Twonky Beam app, which enables Docomo smartphones to play full-HD digital-terrestrial and broadcast-satellite programs that are stored on the user's Blu-ray recording devices at home.

The OG Pro and the Xperia Z seem to be the winners out of this batch, the Fujitsu narrowly trailing them.

The NEC is a total gimmick device. I wouldn't be caught dead with one.

Just reserved an Xperia z phone. Looking forward to the upgrade, and hopefully to new Sony quality now that Erickson is finally out of the picture.

The Xperia Z does look like a very good device. I'd rather have a Android flip-phone, but Sharp seems to be the only one doing it.

You're losing 40,000 customers a month, Docomo. We all know what needs to be done...

They do not care about updating android os. very very slow compare to rest of the world. here, most of the users also do not care about that. they need different color and style phones for every season. with two years contract these phones are too costly.

Agree sighclops, I am using Docomo for more than 10 years and iPhone since 3GS model, I am still using the old model docomo phone (not smartphone) and now I have iPhone 5, my wife has a docomo fujitsu smartphone which is really bad compared to even a iPhone 4 (cannot compare with 4s or new iPhone 5) but docomo does not want to move ahead, how about giving your clients a choice of iPhone too??? Then you can see the real number of people like Samsung or iPhone. Overseas (out of Japan) it is a different story as Samsung phones are sold lot cheaper than iPhones! But in Japan if you have to pay same amount for a Galaxy or iPhone obviously good percentage will choose iPhone.
