How to display your real email address

Go to your Facebook profile, and click on the "About" button, which is somewhere under your profile picture. Where you see "contact info", click on "edit". Next to your real email address, click on the little box that says "hidden from timeline". Change it to 'Shown on timeline'. Now click on the box next to the impostor Facebook email address. Change it to "hidden from timeline". Click save. Exit Facebook.

Could someone explain to us Facebooks users the way to fix this problem? Thanks!

Are these really "default" addresses? (If Facebook in fact changed addresses which users manually configured themselves, then it's misleading to say that a default has been changed; in that case, a user preference has been clobbered.)

Christina O'NeillJun. 27, 2012 - 09:24PM JST If Face book advertising is the real basis for the changes, Im afraid its lost on me, i choose not to achknowledge any of the adverts, it is soley a product on my PC to communicate with other users of my own choice

And that, Christina, is exactly why the FB IPO was such a disaster - next to no one reads the ads and they've already determined that, in the long run, there is no real way to monetize the site beyond selling your information and they can really only sell this once.

I know probably a half-dozen people who use false names and otherwise provide no personal data. These people, though being an infinitesimal minority of FB users, are of no monetary value to FB.

The ads they run on my page, by-and-large, seem to be for places and products that I am already familiar with, so why would I click on them? Instead, I click the block option giving the reason that most of the ads are offensive, racist or sexual. No need to help them.

I think FB gets most of it's information from teens and 20-somethings too dumb to protect their privacy, but also lacking any real income and, therefore, of little value to FB advertisers or to people who buy their information from FB.

maybe we should all be reminded that Facebook is free. we get a pretty good deal if you think about it.

Mac users pay more than PC users, says Orbitz by Larry Dignan @ http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-57460254-93/mac-users-pay-more-than-pc-users-says-orbitz/

The travel site says Mac users will pay $20 to $30 a night more on hotels than PC users.

Makes sense. Mac users pay $100's more for their computers, so why not their hotels, too? Nobody ever claimed Mac users were smart.

jessebaybay, that is funny. Yahoo is trying to do the same thing. You cannot comment on many articles now unless you join facebook. If the time comes down to it where you cannot use the net unless through facebook, then I buy stamps, envelopes, paper and pens again.

ps. I signed up to this site through my Facebook account. So when I do deactivate my account I can't post on here any more. It's really annoying.

sigh.. i delete my account on a weekly basis. Always seem to return. I wish they would just go away.

Is Facebook stupid?

Like a fox. They have pulled this kind of tricks for years.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I have so far stayed Facebook free.

If you don't like what they are doing, don't use their site.

FB is a life-sucking black hole that helps you make "friends" with people who aren't created by a company that stores all your private information in a way that makes you think your privacy is assured.

It's like TV game shows: if you don't like them, don't watch them.

Discipline, people! :-)

It should be an opt-in thing with a clear notice, not an automatic sly thing. Is Facebook stupid? If users don't know about the change, then how would they know where to check if they received updates or email from FB friends unless they're already on Facebook and it may be too late.

Ever since the launch of timeline, people have had the ability to control what posts they want to show or hide on their own timelines,

Ehhh no they can't. Everyone can see each others likes and comments on friend pages. Which is by far the most annoying and privacy breaking stunt facebook has ever pulled.

dictator of the web much?

What can you expect when you use a service you don't pay for? I am confused that people think they have the right to complain about a pseudo free service. I am even more confused that they willingly place their personal information on it and show the whole world increasing the likely hood of criminal activity or more likely government spying that could land you in trouble simply because one of your connections is a terrorist suspect.

How did you block any random person from sending you email to that FB mail account, ultradork?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Lame attempt by them but it took me a few clicks and 10 seconds to fix it. Living in Japan w/ friends and family far away, FB is occasionally useful to keep in touch but I certainly don't obsess over it and there's no need to get upset about something I can change so easily.

I'm going to bitterly complain and immediately go back to browsing it complacently.

It's called control freak and Facebook is not the only one that likes to control their services and products in how they are bing used and targeted.

This is getting old..... I had to create 3 random gmail accounts to continue to use my YouTube accounts. Now it looks like I have a Facebook email account, too. Pretty soon I'll have 50 accounts for the sites I visit most.

I really don't get people's obsession with and adulation of Facebook. They really don't care about users beyond wanting to make a buck off them. and soo much of the interaction on the site is puerile and meaningless. friends??? sure.

“updating addresses on Facebook to make them consistent across our site.”

...and the need for that is??

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Not like. Even though I had one person (FB stalker) blocked from sending me (rude and threatening) messages, it was possible for this person to do so anyway because of this privacy infringing tool.
