I hope Facebook ends up like MySpace: For sale, but you can't give it away.

"paulinusa that wont happen."

Never try to predict the future with the internet. What's hot today might not be tomorrow.

Facebook has more than 600 million users, there is no way on earth they will let it end up like myspace, and I dont think the users even want. Theres too much money and addiction involved

Papigiulio:

Tell that to AOL.

5cents, sorry not an american here, not sure what the story is with aol.

I don't care if FB crashes and burns since I never got into it. I kind of wish it will end up like myspace. As for google, I use their search engine on a regular basis.

One lesson: If you’re going to write an incriminating email, don’t. Pick up the phone instead.

And phone calls cannot be recorded? How about face to face at a Star Bucks that is soon to be closed down?

Nothing is forever, and I would love to see Face Book close the book forever.

Papigiulio:

AOL at one time marketed themselves with "there's the internet, and then there's AOL"

They made billions, merged with TimeWarner, seemed to be an unstoppable juggernaut that some predicted would replace the web as the online experience of choice. And now, nearly gone (they still exist as a content provider, but a shadow of their former self)

Sound familiar?

AOL never connected with people. It was an ISP, news outlet, etc. Facebook connects people - if I didn't have Facebook, I would lose touch with the vast majority of my friends overseas. People don't use email to communicate with friends anymore - they use Facebook. It's integrated into the lives of people my age (25) so much, I very strongly doubt it will ever disappear. All Facebook need to do now is add voice & video chat, and that will be the end of Skype.

I think being bought by MS might be the end of Skype. Wonder what "improvements" will come out?

@5cents thnx didnt know.

Im not good with words but BoratLikeBarry summed up perfectly what I wanted to say.

BoratLikeBarry: Comparing Facebook to MySpace(or AOL) might be apples and oranges but can anyone say for sure that another website won't someday leapfrog Facebook?

Facebook has legs unless it makes some major misstep. Groupon, on the other hand - their valuation in unbelievable. Google is no one-trick pony, but it's rather late for them to be muscling in on Facebook's territory. Co-opting them is a better idea. The competition at any rate is good for us all; it keeps them both (somewhat) honest.

By the way, can't wait to get my hands on a Japanese-OS Chromebook!

paulinusa - I think Facebook is at the stage now where it is pretty much irreplaceable. It isn't just the younger, internet-smart generation using it - people of all ages, and people who wouldn't necessarily have been interested in using the internet previously use it. Even if something better than Facebook crops up, the vast majority of people will just find it a bother to change when they have all their photos, friends, messages, etc., on Facebook already. The only thing I could see ruining FB now, is if they start charging for usage. I'm sure they wouldn't be stupid enough to do that though.

Maybe FB and Twitters appeal to a lot of people. I don't have a need for it or find them interesting.

With all companies there are too little protection for the users/customers and the terms of agreement is for the benefit and protection of the companies.

whether replaceable or not, the facebook mgmt has some questionable morals/ethics with all the people suing them for stealing the idea in the first place. given that, i wouldn't put it past them.

Facebook does have legs, but that also gives it vulnerability. The youth, those who are most valuable for advertisers and always hungry for something new, will not want to be in the same online place as their grandparents, parents, and teachers. There will always be a counterculture online that seeks the next big thing, and FB needs to appeal to that group, not just now, but also in the next few years. Since the net has began, there has never been one single site that maintained popularity and innovation forever.

Remember, Google is in business of selling ads, and they do that very well. Facebook is in the business of selling you.

If that doesn't scare you, you should take another look at their business model.

Facebook = largest data mining scam ever.

FB ............ I just see it as a place to get into trouble, you reminice with highschool buddies about old times, yr employer checks you out, you stop getting promotions, or its harder to get a job, you put anything on there, employeers, future employers are checking this FB crap & I think its haunting a lot of people but they may never know it

I've got my FB privacy settings set about as tight as they can be and still have an account. What FB does with personal information is not something that you want out in identity theft land. Google isn't exactly as pure as the driven snow - "don't be evil" has been overtaken by lust for profit.

Bottom line is that, on the web, you can't put too much of your real self out there without asking to become a victim. And, of course, understand that on the web the other person you are talking to is following that advice. You're not seeing the whole person.

Kinda creepy, eh?

Not surprising coming from those scumbags. I know some people don't like google, but not many of them like facebook any more lol.
