what scares the hell out of me is how many governments, including Japan's, are salivating at acquiring this tech and using it. It won't stop in China- they'll sell it to the whole world.

Both sentences made me laugh. One better than the other.

China is the testing ground for all of this; next stop: your town.

The CCP needs technology the way a chimpanzee needs a machine gun.

I say so too.

...and fail they will.

Yes, quite funny. Anyone interested can do that easily nowadays, neither the Chinese CCP nor a company like NEC needed. You only need the photo or video footage from your devices and then you read a bit about that AI technology in GitHub , adapt it to your personal project and let it run in Kaggle, Colab and such. Takes some hours or a few days for newbies, depending on how motivated and IT capable you already are.

Good one ^ ^ Japan’s style is to make hidden cameras. Respect for privacy is all tatemae.

For a moment, I thought you were going to say an American needs a machine gun.

Actually, Japan actually has this tech already. NEC is world leader in this. Japan isn't using it because it respects Privacy of it's citizens.
