Not formulas, but ''formulae'', although it is not exactly formulas. as per a definition I looked up just to be certain ''Formulas is a plural form of formula, the alternate plural of formula is formulae. '' http://grammarist.com/usage/formulas-vs-formulae/

Before computers, algorithms were easy to understand. A short list of rules for example that would come up with an insurance quote dependent on easily measurable risk factors.
With machine-learning and AI though, you could ask until you're blue in the face, but still get no explanation why "computer says 'No'." So wanting 'state oversight' of algorithms is just fanciful.
