Speaking for myself, but I love to read about the efforts to explore space. One thing that I find disappointing is that there is not more cooperation in space exploration among the industrialized societies. I think that Chinese and American manned spacecraft are not even able to dock with each other, which feat would be useful in rescue missions. Space can be an unforgiving environment. Considerations should be made for international cooperation whenever possible, especially in rescue missions.

The new situation on the planet, for example de-industrialization and new cold war block differences will bring all that space related money wasting nonsense to an end.

One could argue that life's lesson is that those species which cannot evolve will eventually die off. Brighter minds than mine have said that if we do not learn to live off this planet, we will become extinct.
