Being able to monitor the loss of forests doesn't help much if the political leaders of a country are dedicated to destroying those forests. President Bolsonaro of Brazil is firmly on the side of those cutting down and burning the forests in order to raise and export more Brazilian cattle to China.
The rapid increase in the deforestation of the Amazonian rain forest can be directly linked to Trump's trade wars. In retaliation for Trump's trying to hurt the Chinese economy, China has curtailed the purchase of American farm and ranch produce. Thus, they have been looking to fill their need for beef from other countries, and Brazil is trying to fill that niche, by replacing the rain forest with cattle ranches.
