Interesting article that evidence one of the important advantages of scientific and technical progress. Knowledge obtained about how to do something do not mean that will be the only way this knowledge will be useful but instead it means it remains available to solve other kinds of problems, even as different as the example described.
Recycling batteries is a huge advantage that will help not only reducing very toxic waste but that can make easier to abandon dependency on fossil fuels and the shift to cleaner ways of producing energy.

Not if the recycling procedure has negative effects, as they often do and end up adding pollutants to the waters and air.

What negative effects about the process described in the article? recycling reduces the risk of pollutants ending up in the environment, that is the whole point.

Somehow both of you have strong points. Although the described new recycling technologies sound very skilled, sophisticated and promising, those methods are still very questionable and might neutralize the intended merits by their intrinsic demerits. Or shorter, some problems solved by creating new ones.

"Promising" is already behind the 8 ball. There will be millions of car, bike and scooter batteries to deal with in a couple of years and with government mandates kicking in that will become a tsunami.

Rare acknowledgement that China is ahead in some areas.
Anyway, seems an advanced undertaking this car battery recycling; they would need to scale it up fast as poster above noted
